Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of January 17:

Since the beginning of the day, more than 150 attacks have been reported along the front lines, with Russian forces concentrating their heaviest pressure in the Pokrovsk direction, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"Since the start of the day, 155 combat engagements have occurred. Ukrainian defenders continue to decisively repel enemy attempts to advance deeper into our territory, inflicting heavy fire damage," the statement reads.

Pokrovsk direction

In this sector of the front, the enemy launched 64 attacks since the beginning of the day, targeting areas near Zelene Pole, Vodiane Druhe, Yelyzavetivka, Promin, Lysivka, Shevchenko, Zvirove, Udachne, Uspenivka, Sribne, Dachne, Ulakly, and Yantarne.

Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled 49 assaults, while 15 engagements are still ongoing. Preliminary reports indicate that 410 enemy personnel have been neutralized, including 173 killed in action. Three motorcycles, ten vehicles, and two satellite communication systems have also been destroyed.

Frontline situation

In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy attempted to assault Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk. The Defense Forces successfully repelled the attempt to advance.

In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy carried out seven offensive actions near Holubivka, Stepova Novoselivka, and Kruhliakivka. Three engagements remain ongoing.

With air support, Russian forces launched 13 assaults in the Lyman direction against Defense Forces positions near Kopanky, Tverdokhlibove, Makiivka, and Terny. Three clashes are still underway.

In the Siversk direction, the enemy attacked toward Bilohorivka but failed to achieve any success.

Since the beginning of the day in the Kramatorsk direction, the enemy launched attacks near Chasiv Yar and toward Stupochky and Bila Hora. Despite 24 attempts to dislodge Ukrainian forces from their positions, Russian forces were unsuccessful. Two engagements are ongoing. --->READ MORE HERE
