Trump Vows to Impose ‘tough new sentences’ On Illegal Migrant Criminals – Including Death Penalty for Sex Traffickers; Death Penalty Divide: Trump Urges More Capital Punishment While Harris Silent

Trump vows to impose ‘tough new sentences’ on illegal migrant criminals – including death penalty for sex traffickers:
Former President Donald Trump on Thursday vowed to impose stiff punishments – including the death penalty – on illegal migrants found guilty of committing heinous crimes.
“We will impose tough new sentences on illegal alien criminals, including 10-year mandatory minimum sentences for anyone found guilty of human smuggling; a guaranteed life sentence for any one found guilty of child trafficking; and a death penalty for anyone guilty of child or woman sex trafficking,” Trump said at a news conference in Cochise County, Ariz., just steps from the US-Mexico border.
“We’ll also impose the death penalty on major drug dealers and traffickers,” the 78-year-old former president added.
Trump also called for capital punishment for anyone convicted of killing “police, sheriffs, border patrol, ICE or law enforcement officials.”
“The death penalty with a quicker trial,” the Republican presidential nominee said, “not a trial that lasts for 15 years and everyone gets exhausted.”
“The amount of injuries sustained in fights and shootings is just incredible,” Trump said of the difficult and dangerous job law enforcement authorities face guarding the southern border.
Trump, flanked by law enforcement officials and family members of migrant crime victims, toured the remnants of sections of a border wall he approved during his presidency that was never erected once the Biden administration took control of the project.
The former president inspected the piles of steel sitting in the Arizona sun, seemingly rusting from neglect.
“It could have been put up in a matter of weeks. It was all set to go,” Trump said of the heaps of metal.
“It’s the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of walls,” he said, lamenting that President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris “refused to put it up.”
“That’s when I first realized they wanted open borders,” Trump explained, claiming that much of unused paneling “has been sold for five cents on the dollar.” --->READ MORE HERE
Death penalty divide: Trump urges more capital punishment while Harris silent:
Former President Donald Trump has signaled he will continue his administration’s aggressive pursuit of the death penalty if he is elected, while Vice President Kamala Harris has gone mum on the issue.
Trump made his most detailed comments yet on capital punishment since launching his campaign during remarks at the Arizona border on Thursday, at the same time that Harris has come under scrutiny for her silence on the matter.
As he was addressing punishments for illegal migrants who commit crimes, Trump said he would impose the death penalty “for anyone guilty of child or woman sex trafficking.”
Trump has also repeatedly suggested that a solution to the nation’s drug trafficking and addiction problems is to impose the death penalty on drug traffickers, citing countries such as China, which he has said successfully combats illegal drugs with a punishment of death. The former president reiterated those sentiments Thursday.
“We’ll also impose the death penalty on major drug dealers and traffickers,” Trump said. “In other countries on their immigration papers, there is a statement that says, ‘Death for drug traffickers.’ Big letters, big bold letters, 10 times the size of everything else on the page. I saw it this morning, and those are the countries where they have no problem with drugs.”
It is unclear which countries Trump was referring to, but PolitiFact found in 2018 that Trump accurately made similar comments about China and Singapore imposing the death penalty for drug trafficking. The outlet also noted, though, that there is little data to assess how effective the policy was in those countries.
Trump said his administration would also seek the death penalty for those who kill police, U.S. Border Patrol officers, or Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. --->READ MORE HERE
