Ukrainian defenders conduct counteroffensives in certain areas of front line – ISW:

Ukrainian troops are trying to seize the tactical initiative by conducting limited counterattacks in certain areas of the front, and they will be able to counterattack depending on the arrival of Western aid.

Details: Western and US officials predict that Ukrainian forces will primarily be on the defensive for the next six months, with a large-scale counteroffensive not expected until 2025. Nonetheless, Ukrainian troops are actively engaging in limited counterattacks in specific frontline areas. The extent and timing of their counteroffensive operations will hinge significantly on the arrival of Western support.

A senior NATO official, as reported by The New York Times on 11 July, indicated that Ukraine needs to receive additional Western security aid and deploy more forces to the front before it can mount substantial counteroffensive operations, which are anticipated to be delayed until 2025.

ISW continues to assess that Russian forces are unlikely to achieve meaningful operational advances in Ukraine. Russian leader Vladimir Putin's strategy appears to focus on slow, steady territorial gains rather than rapid, significant manoeuvres.

To address manpower issues, Ukraine is currently forming several new brigades, which could be crucial in shifting the initiative. Russian army attempts to break through Ukrainian forces' defenses in Pokrovsk direction:

On Saturday, July 13, the situation at the front remained tense in the Pokrovsk direction. Additionally, the enemy is active in the Kharkiv, Lyman, and Vremivka directions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Russian attacks

Throughout the day, the enemy launched two missile strikes (using three missiles) and carried out 57 airstrikes using 103 guided aerial bombs across Ukrainian territory.

Additionally, Russian forces deployed 512 kamikaze drones and conducted over 3,200 attacks on Ukrainian military positions and populated areas.

Frontline situation

As of 10:00 PM, there have been 149 combat engagements since the beginning of the day.

According to the General Staff, in the Kharkiv direction, the enemy conducted 13 offensive assaults near Vovchansk and Hlyboke, suffering defeats during the clashes.

In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy also attacked Ukrainian positions 13 times in the areas of Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Berestove, and Stelmakhivka. Ukrainian defenders repelled ten attacks, with three more currently ongoing.

In the Lyman direction, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian defensive positions 14 times throughout the day near Hrekivka, Makiivka, and Terni. According to updated information, all these battles ended unsuccessfully for the enemy.

In the Siversk direction, the enemy launched assaults in the areas of Bilohorivka, Rozdolivka, Spirne, Verkhnokamyanske, and Vyiimka. Ukrainian defenders halted five Russian attacks, with three more engagements ongoing. --->READ MORE HERE
