Ukrainian forces holding firm against Russian attacks in on left bank of Dnipro in Kherson Oblast:

Ukrainian forces are maintain control over a stretch of several kilometers on the left bank of Kherson Oblast, fending off multiple attempted incursions by Russian occupiers, spokesperson for the southern defense forces, Natalia Humeniuk, said on Dec. 20.

Despite more than 30 assaults in the past day, Russian forces have been unable to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their positions.

“It’s a significant achievement considering that we currently control a stretch of several kilometers, while the enemy possesses substantial potential on the left bank,” said Humeniuk.

“However, we observe a considerable amount of enemy equipment destroyed in this area, a result, in part, of robust counter-battery support provided to our units performing combat missions.”

The Russian army is deploying reserves in the form of a Z-shaped company to the left bank, favoring “meaty assaults.” Humeniuk also noted frequent actions by Russian units “on foot” without the support of vehicles, indicating, she said, the invaders were taking cost-cutting measures.

Developments in Left Bank Kherson

Since Nov. 17, Ukrainian fighters have officially confirmed their presence on several strongholds on the occupied left bank of the Dnipro River.

From mid-October, the U.S.-based think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has reported on the successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and their advancement on the left bank of Kherson Oblast. Defence Forces repel over 30 Russian attacks on left bank of Kherson Oblast – General Staff:

The Russian invaders have not abandoned their intentions to drive the Defence Forces out of the left (eastern) bank of Kherson Oblast, with Ukrainian soldiers repelling more than 30 Russian attacks in this area over the past day alone.

Quote: "In the area of responsibility of the Odesa Operational Strategic Group on the Kherson front, Ukrainian soldiers continue efforts to expand their foothold. Despite all their failures, the enemy did not abandon their intention to drive our units out of their positions and carried out more than 30 unsuccessful assault operations. They received a worthy response and retreated with losses. Our defenders are engaged in counter-battery combat, inflicting fire on the enemy's rear."

Details: In the area of responsibility of the Khortytsia Operational Strategic Group on the Kupiansk front, Ukrainian defenders repelled 16 Russian attacks near the settlement of Synkivka, east of Petropavlivka and Ivanivka (Kharkiv Oblast), where the Russians were trying to break through the Ukrainian defences.

On the Lyman front, Ukrainian troops repelled 13 Russian attacks near Bilohorivka (Luhansk Oblast) and east of Terny and Spirne (Donetsk Oblast).

On the Bakhmut front, Ukrainian soldiers repelled seven Russian attacks near the settlements of Bohdanivka, Klishchiivka and Andriivka (Donetsk Oblast).

In the area of responsibility of the Tavriia Operational Strategic Group on the Avdiivka front, the Ukrainian Defence Forces persisted in holding back the Russians, as they have never ceased their attempts to encircle the town of Avdiivka. Ukrainian soldiers are steadfastly holding the line, inflicting significant losses on the Russians.
