Out of touch as ever, President Biden celebrated record-high gas prices Monday, gushing that the pump pain was part of “an incredible transition” of the US economy away from fossil fuels.
“[When] it comes to the gas prices, we’re going through an incredible transition that is taking place that, God willing, when it’s over, we’ll be stronger and the world will be stronger and less reliant on fossil fuels when this is over,” Biden said during a press conference in Japan following his meeting with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
The president then insisted that his administration’s actions, rather than increasing the price of gas, had actually been able to “keep it from getting worse — and it’s bad.”
Only then did Biden pay lip service to millions of Americans who have found themselves spending thousands of extra dollars to fuel up their vehicles.
“The price of gas at the pump is something that I told you — you heard me say before — it would be a matter of great discussion at my kitchen table when I was a kid growing up,” Biden said before admitting, “It’s affecting a lot of families.” --->READ MORE HEREGas prices soar nearly 50 cents in one month just ahead of summer driving season:
Gas prices in the United States surged by nearly 50 cents per gallon in the past month alone, according to AAA, a massive increase that comes despite myriad recent efforts by the Biden administration and congressional Democrats to respond to the pain drivers are suffering at the pump.
On Monday, the cost of regular gas reached a national average of $4.596 per gallon, according to AAA, a 48-cent spike from just a month ago, when the average sat at $4.120 per gallon, and a whopping $1.55 surge from the same point last year.
The record-high gas prices come just days before the start of summer driving season in the U.S., which traditionally begins Memorial Day weekend and is expected to drive up demand even higher.
It also comes despite a flurry of recent efforts from President Joe Biden and Democrats to reassure the public that they are conscious of high prices and are taking steps to try to alleviate that pain. --->READ MORE HEREFollow links below to related stories:
