US Bracing for Border Push When COVID Expulsion Authority Ends: Report; Biden Admin Ends Trump-Era Rule Expediting Removal of Some Migrants, and other C-Virus related stories

US bracing for border rush when COVID expulsion authority ends: report
US officials are bracing for thousands of migrants to head for the border with Mexico if a public health measure granting authorities the right to quickly expel illegal immigrants is lifted in the coming weeks, according to a new report.
Officials from multiple federal agencies are discussing ways to handle a potential influx of up to 170,000 people once the so-called Title 42 public health authority is removed, sources with direct knowledge of talks told Axios this week.
As the agencies prepare, intelligence from the Department of Homeland Security reportedly indicates that up to 25,000 migrants are waiting just south of the border for Title 42 and other restrictions to end.
Title 42 was put in place at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and permits instantaneous expulsions due to the ongoing public health crisis. Border officials have used the policy to expel migrants without hearing asylum claims more than 1 million times.
Many Democrats and immigration activists have called on the administration to lift the temporary policy, calling it “inhumane.” --->READ MORE HERE

Biden Admin Ends Trump-Era Rule Expediting Removal of Some Migrants:
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is discontinuing a policy expanded under former President Donald Trump that called for the expedited removal of some migrants who were already in the United States.
DHS said in a statement to Newsweek that the agency "conducted a thorough review of the July 2019 expedited removal designation," and that recession "was consistent with the Department's need to prioritize its limited enforcement resources ... by utilizing expedited removal as a border enforcement tool for certain recent entrants."
The document to be published Monday in the Federal Registry comes as hundreds of thousands of migrants continue to try to cross the border every month. The expanded program allowed for the expedited removal of any noncitizen who was encountered anywhere in the country.
Democrats and immigration advocacy groups have been calling on President Joe Biden to completely rescind Title 42, and intelligence officials have said doing so would cause a massive influx of migrants at the southwest border. Homeland Security estimates it's possible that about 25,000 migrants are already waiting in shelters south of the U.S.-Mexico border, Axios reported. --->READ MORE HERE
