Virginia Dept. of Ed moves to end accelerated math classes for 'equity': 'Not an exaggeration':
Old Dominion might want to consider a new nickname as the Virginia Department of Education moves to strip schools of accelerated math classes: New Equity.
VDOE plans recently spotlighted by Loudoun County school board member Ian Serotkin detail a future in which Virginia students are funneled into “concept” classes that are more opaque as it pertains to children with a fast grasp of the discipline.
“[A]s currently planned, this initiative will eliminate ALL math acceleration prior to 11th grade,” Mr. Serotkin said, Fox News reported Thursday. “That is not an exaggeration, nor does there appear to be any discretion in how local districts implement this. All 6th graders will take Foundational Concepts 6. All 7th graders will take Foundational Concepts 7. All 10th graders will take Essential Concepts 10. Only in 11th and 12th grade is there any opportunity for choice in higher math courses.”
A spokesman for VDOE did not object to Mr. Serotkin’s premise while indicating some wiggle room will be allowed for instructors. --->READ MORE HERE

Woke Educators’ War on Tests:
Did you take the SATs to try to get into college? Your kids may not have to.
More than 1,300 schools have become “test optional,” meaning students need not submit SAT scores. Some, like the entire University of California system, now won’t even look at scores.
There are seemingly legitimate reasons to oppose the tests. Richer kids often get tutoring that gives them an advantage.
Critics claim the tests are culturally biased and say that’s why blacks and Latinos don’t score as well. But that doesn’t explain why Asians do so well. In fact, Asians get the best SAT scores.
I assume it’s more about culture and parenting. Kids raised in front of the TV do poorly. Those encouraged to read do better. Kids who spend time talking to adults do better.
Bob Schaeffer, executive director at FairTest, an advocacy group that helped persuade colleges to dump tests, says testing companies just want to make money. --->READ MORE HERE
