I'm a Director at ICE: Stop Putting Politics Before Safety

Our immigration laws are a vital part of our national identity, and they deserve to be administered and enforced properly. Failure to do so jeopardizes national security, public safety, and the very integrity of our immigration system.
While our immigration laws are at times complex, this should not excuse those who mischaracterize U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities. This is particularly true in the case of sanctuary policies that hinder ICE's ability to remove criminal aliens from the country.
The Star-Ledger editorial on July 29 concerning ICE not picking up two sex offenders from the Middlesex County Jail shows a deep misunderstanding of the process that ICE follows when arresting aliens for violations of our immigration laws.
And, one cannot help but wonder whether this was an intentional mischaracterization, given the detailed information ICE previously offered to the editorial board explaining its practices -- information that appears to have been utterly ignored.
