Trump Supports Terrible Budget Bill, Then Says U.S. ‘Needs A Good Shutdown’

After being hammered on Monday for granting his wholehearted support to a $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill that fully funds Planned Parenthood, Obamacare, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Iran deal, among others, while explicitly rejecting funding for Trump’s famous border wall, President Trump attempted to split the baby on Tuesday morning on Twitter:

either elect more Republican Senators in 2018 or change the rules now to 51%. Our country needs a good "shutdown" in September to fix mess!

Getting out our Trump Decoder Rings, we find that Trump is complaining that it’s hard to do a budget, but that he doesn’t have the guts to use his leverage over the budget to do anything. If anybody believes he’ll cave on a shutdown in May but push a shutdown in September, just as the 2018 Congressional election cycle kicks into high gear, they’ve got another think coming. All of Trump’s leverage is now.
