In the two months since he sewed up the Republican nomination, Donald Trump has blurred his positions on some key issues and tactics that helped him win more primary votes than any other GOP presidential candidate.
Among his promises during the primary: “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims,” a wall along the southern border, and the deportation of millions of illegal immigrants. He opposed increasing the minimum wage and favored tax cuts for the wealthy.
His national-security policy now has shifted to blocking immigrants from countries with terrorist links. “I have never liked the media term ‘mass deportation,’ he said recently on Twitter, referring to people living in the U.S. illegally. And last month, he said he was “open” to state-level minimum-wage hikes and “flexible” on the size of tax cuts for affluent households. He hasn’t wavered on the wall.
In an interview Wednesday, Mr. Trump said he was “getting more specific,” not changing positions.
“I don’t flip flop. I do what’s right,” he said. “Sometimes there’s something I think I have to adjust, but I don’t do it for votes, I do it because I think it’s right.”Read the rest HERE.
