Former California Gov. Pete Wilson Endorses Ted Cruz

Former California Gov. Pete Wilson endorsed Ted Cruz for president Saturday, delivering another high-profile boost to the Texas senator as he struggles to catch up with front-runner Donald Trump before it is too late to keep from clinching the party’s nomination.
Mr. Wilson, in a surprise appearance to introduce Mr. Cruz at the California Republican Party’s state convention, said he was backing the senator in part because of his concern about who will fill what could be a spate of vacancies on the Supreme Court in the next few years.
Taking an apparent dig at Mr. Trump, Mr. Wilson said, “We can’t afford a wild card when it comes to a president who will be making critically important Supreme Court appointments.”
Mr. Wilson’s endorsement comes one day after Mr. Cruz picked up the support of Indiana Gov. Mike Pence in advance of his state’s primary Tuesday.
