Migrant Crisis In Europe: What European Nations are Doing

Hundreds of thousands of migrants are flooding into Europe from such war-torn nations as Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Sudan and Eritrea. They embark on arduous crossings on the Mediterranean Sea to Italy, the Aegean Sea to Greece or the Black Sea to Romania or Macedonia. Thousands are walking through Serbia, Macedonia and Hungary to reach Austria and, finally, Germany.
An estimated 366,402 migrants — most refugees from conflict and others seeking a better life — have entered Europe this year. The United Nations estimates 2,800 have died in the process. One of worst maritime disasters in recent history involved the loss of 800 African migrants when a smuggling vessel sank off the coast of Libya on April 19.

More recently, the discovery of decomposing bodies of 71 migrants trapped in an abandoned truck on a highway in Austria, and images of the body of a 3-year-old migrant boy that washed ashore on the Greek island of Kos last week have raised worldwide awareness of the refugee crisis and outcries for humanitarian relief.
