Raising your hand for the Pledge is automatic for most people ... for Obama, not so much |
Exceptionalism: A new poll shows, shockingly, that more than a third of Americans would consider leaving the U.S. Being an American was once thought to be a precious gift, an extraordinary blessing. Now, not so much.
It used to be that merely living in the U.S. was considered a privilege. But a new Anchor Index survey by TransferWise shows that 35% of U.S. residents would consider moving to another country. And, among millennials, the backbone of our nation's future, a stunning 55% say they'd leave.

We're tempted, of course, to discard a poll conducted online, as this one was. But it does support observations of a strange shift in mood and attitude in America.
To be sure, the poll tries to give a positive spin, attributing this shift to "an increasingly globalized view of the world and economy." But we kind of doubt that. Indeed, as the poll itself reveals, "overall patriotism is surprisingly low this Independence Day."
That's an understatement. It's impossible to imagine a third of those surveyed in, say, the 1950s or 1960s admitting that they'd prefer to live elsewhere.
Looking at recent events, maybe what's surprising is that it's taken so long to weaken Americans' love of country, long a goal of the U.S. progressive movement.
Consider former President Jimmy Carter's comment just last week that "many Americans still have racist tendencies" and that "the dreams of the civil rights movement have not been realized" — two statements entirely at odds with the reality.

Or President Obama's comment that racism is in America's "DNA" — a sick, distorted view of America's history, from its most divisive modern president.
Such hate-filled drivel, coming from our leaders, can't help but influence impressionable minds.Read the rest of the IBD Editorial HERE.
