IRAN BS: We're Willing To Extend The Talks Beyond June Until we Either Get the Deal or THE BOMB WE WANT

Now you know they didn't actually say all that. But you and I both know that all of the following does:

Iran would extend talks for a final nuclear deal with world powers beyond a June 30 deadline if need be to maintain red lines drawn this week by its supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, a senior Iranian official said.

“Iran will work hard to reach an agreement within the specified time of three months or even sooner, but if the deal doesn’t meet the criteria the leader has introduced for a good deal, we would extend the time,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, a member of the Iranian negotiating team, in televised comments reported Friday by the Mehr News Agency.

The suggestion of an extension underlines the wide gaps that still exist between Iran and the six world powers who reached a framework deal April 2 that would limit Iranian nuclear activities and mandate international inspections. In exchange, sanctions imposed over Iran’s disputed nuclear program would be drawn back.

Western countries have long accused Iran of seeking nuclear weapons. Iran has maintained that its nuclear activities are peaceful.

Mr. Araqchi raised the possibility of an extension in response to a pessimistic assessment of the talks delivered Thursday by Mr. Khamenei, who has final say over most matters of state.

“Everything done so far neither guarantees an agreement in principle nor its contents, nor does it guarantee that the negotiations will continue to the end,” Mr. Khamenei said in a speech broadcast on state television and posted to his official website. The speech was his first public response to the preliminary deal.

Among the red lines for Iran, Mr. Khamenei said, is that his country won't allow outside inspections of military sites, a condition the U.S. and five other powers in the talks—China, France, Germany, Russia, and the U.K.—are unlikely to accept.
