Will GOP Rescue America From ObamaCare Or Set It In Stone?

The Supreme Court's ruling in King v. Burwell could be a defining moment for the Grand Old Party and ObamaCare.
The court is now weighing the legality of the Obama administration's distribution of subsidies to some 7 million people who obtained health insurance through the federal exchange.
If the justices decide the administration's actions are illegal — the correct ruling, based on the plain text of the law — Republicans will have two options.
They can begin to rescue Americans from ObamaCare, or they can make that law all but permanent. Strangely, prominent members of the GOP are essentially advocating for the latter option.
In recent weeks, many Republican lawmakers have suggested that Congress effectively extend ObamaCare's subsidies if the Supreme Court rules against the administration. At the same time, some governors are being pressured to abandon the federal exchange and institute their own state-based exchanges in order to keep the subsidies flowing.
In both cases, the argument is that the sudden loss of ObamaCare's subsidies would be disruptive for families and health care as a whole.
President Obama couldn't have put it better. He's banking on Republicans caving on this issue, and both options play right into his hands. Either would only extend ObamaCare's control over Americans' health care for the foreseeable future, worsening the harm which that law has already done.
But the GOP doesn't have to fall into this trap. ...
