Nuclear Terror: The U.S. is close to the "bad deal" feared on nukes, Iran's foreign policy chief discloses. Oh, and the ayatollah was misunderstood in saying of Israel that there's "no cure but to be annihilated.
'This barbaric, wolf-like and infanticidal regime of Israel, which spares no crime, has no cure but to be annihilated," Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei tweeted last year.
When NBC's Ann Curry presented that quote to Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday, he replied, "We don't want to annihilate anybody"; Khamenei was saying that only Benjamin Netanyahu's regime "should be annihilated."
The ayatollah helpfully explained last year: "Of course, the elimination of Israel does not mean the massacre of the Jewish people in this region."
Instead, "All the original people of Palestine, including Muslims, Christians and Jews wherever they are" will "take part in a public and organized referendum."
"Naturally the Jewish immigrants who have been persuaded into emigration to Palestine do not have the right to take part in this referendum." Sure. Naturally.
This would be black comedy, except for its not being funny at all: a theocratic dictator outlining his notion of a democratic solution to The Jewish Problem.
And this is the absolute ruler of a regime that, as the Heritage Foundation's new first annual Index of Military Strength notes, "has cultivated, trained, armed and supported ... the Lebanon-based Hezbollah; Iraqi Shia militant groups; Palestinian groups such as Hamas and Palestine Islamic Jihad; and groups that have fought against the governments of Afghanistan, Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Yemen."Read the rest of the story HERE.
