A Real Strategy To Defeat The Islamofascist Enemy

The Obama administration finally has a plan to defeat Islamic State terrorists. Ready? It will fund job fairs for Muslims overseas while leaving it up to Muslim communities to police recruitment and radicalization of our youth at home. Oh yes, and the president will also "check in" periodically with the United Nations.

In other words, despite a three-day "Summit on Countering Violent Extremism," the White House still has no real strategy for defeating this increasingly violent enemy now terrorizing the world.

Too bad U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn wasn't invited. The just-retired Defense Intelligence Agency chief recently outlined such a strategy. His plan, which would lift the West out of its defensive crouch, includes the following major points:

1. Clearly define the enemy.

"You have to define your enemy, otherwise you can't defeat it," Flynn asserted in a recent interview. Who's the enemy? "They're definitely Muslims," he said. "Let's get off the dime and call it like it is — they are Islamic." So the terrorists aren't a bunch of heretics "hijacking" or "perverting" Islam? No, and saying so is "a mistake."

"I've dealt with these guys over the last 10 years," and their thinking and actions are "drawn from the Quran," he said, adding that we should never furnish detainees copies of the book they're using as a manual of warfare against us. "These are individuals deeply (devout) in the Sunni religion."

"We're dealing not just with 20-year-old kids trying to 
get their jihad on. We're actually dealing with very 
sophisticated guys (with) a religious vision for worldwide 
domination achieved through violence and bloodshed. And 
we don’t have any strategy to stop them."

Pointing that out "doesn't mean we're any less respectful of the Islamic religion," Flynn said. "It just means that this segment of the religion — and it's not a small number — is absolutely dedicated to destroying our way of life.

"Our failure to understand the deeply held religious beliefs that these guys have has led us to a mismatch in how we are executing a strategy and how we are executing even some of our campaign plans on the military side," the general said. "That lack of understanding is causing us to be somewhat confused as to how to do this."
