Obama's 'Whac-A-Mole' Quip Distracts From His Terror Failure

Defense Policy: President Obama falsely presents only two ways of fighting terrorism: his way, which has massively expanded terrorists' territory and power, or "massive U.S. deployments in perpetuity."

Asked by the Associated Press if last week's apparent coup in Yemen, which may now be lost as a U.S. ally, would spur him to "retool aspects of your broader counterterrorism strategy," President Obama contended that "our efforts to go after terrorist networks inside of Yemen without an occupying U.S. army, but rather by partnering and intelligence-sharing with that local government" is the only way to go.
"The alternative," he explained, "would be for us to play 'Whac-a-Mole' every time there is a terrorist actor inside of any given country, to deploy U.S. troops."
"Whac-a-Mole," the 1970s arcade game, for many symbolizes futility; no matter how often you whack him, the mole keeps rearing its head.
Such deployments of "an occupying U.S. army," according to the president, would amount to "massive U.S. deployments in perpetuity."
So he'll "continue to try to refine and fine-tune" what his administration has been doing — "partnering" with the governments where terrorists run rampant.
