24 Weigh Testing Presidential Waters in Iowa

Twenty-four would-be gladiators are trying to size up whether they've got what it takes to ride into bloody battle and claim their party's nomination for the presidency.
It will be another 14 months before we know whose severed heads will be impaled on a stick the morning after the Iowa caucuses, but battle strategies are being drawn up now.

Nine Democrats and 15 Republicans have been connecting with Iowa's first-in-the-nation presidential voters to test their ability to inspire with their words and deeds. Together, they've held 207 political events here since the presidential election in 2012.
Leading the way in Iowa appearances are Texas Gov. Rick Perry on the GOP side and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley for the Democrats, a Des Moines Register database of visits by potential candidates shows.
