Republican Senate Races Get Cash Infusion

The money is starting to roll in for Senate Republicans.
After months bemoaning Democrats’ financial advantage, the National Republican Senatorial Committee collected a record $15.5 million in September—more than doubling its August haul of $6 million.
Despite notching another record-setting month, the GOP’s September windfall still leaves the party trailing Democrats, which entered the month with a sizable fundraising lead.
NRSC’s chairman, Sen. Jerry Moran, (R., Kan.), center, spent
months warning donors and others inside the party that
Democrats’ financial advantage could help them preserve
their Senate majority
“Momentum is on our side heading into November,” said Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, finance chairman of the NRSC. “Our record fundraising month is an example of the enthusiasm we’re seeing.”
One reason Republicans cited for their September success was a bump in smaller donations. The committee collected money from more than 86,000 people, whose average donation was just more than $70.
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee hasn’t released its fundraising total for September. The party has outpaced the GOP for much of the year thanks largely to the efforts of President Barack Obama and a robust online fundraising operation.
By the end of August, the Senate Democrats’ official campaign arm had raised nearly $30 million more in total than their Republican counterparts, and have $5 million more in available cash than the GOP committee.
