NY Court Rules It's OK to Spank Your Kids

In a ruling Wednesday, the state Appellate Division found that a Long Island father’s spanking of an 8-year-old boy “was a reasonable use of force.”
A Suffolk County Family Court judge had determined last year that the father of the boy had abused his son “by inflicting excessive corporal punishment.”
The father allegedly spanked the child with an open hand as punishment for cursing while they were at a party at friend’s home back in 2012, the appeals court ruling says.
“Further, it was alleged that after the father and the child returned home from the party, the father repeatedly struck the child with a belt on the buttocks, legs and arms,” the ruling said.
But while the dad, whose name was withheld, admitted spanking the boy for cursing, he denied hitting him with a belt.
The Appellate Division said there was insufficient evidence to uphold that charge, and gave him a pass on the spanking.
“The father’s open-handed spanking of the child as a form of discipline after he heard the child curse at an adult was a reasonable use of force and, under the circumstances presented here, did not constitute excessive corporal punishment,” the four-judge panel ruled in a unanimous decision.

The court was right, restoring the rights of parents to discipline their childs. We must establish ground rules to promote and development of character and moral values in our country and must start with the family, the responsibility of the parents to educate and teach their childrens character and moral values should not be void nor demise by the government. For year our government had take over the rights of parents to discipline their children; the result is the destruction of moral values and and the creation of a generation of sociopaths self serving individuals that believe that they have rights but not responsibilities, that nothing matters but get what they want at any cost. this promoted more crime and corruption in our country.

Just coming on here to comment. I was spanked as a child, which may or may not have helped me in the long run. I was a punk teenager, like most, thinking I was the center of the universe. I rebelled and got in trouble in school and had bad grades. This was when I was 17 or so. Now I'm almost 33 in college with a 3.5 GPA and on my way to majoring in math and getting a teaching certificate to become a high school math teacher.

Also, I'm the kid all the way to the right in this meme. This picture is of me in my hip-hop teenage years in about 11th grade, so around 1999-2000 range. Even during that point in my life I was always the type to say please and thank you, or to hold the door open for someone.

Can't jump to conclusions based on looks, although it may be right sometimes. You won't always be right in your assumptions, though.
