It’s already disrupted the health-care marketplace. Now, the Affordable Care Act is infiltrating vending machines.
Yep, a provision in the Affordable Care Act requires vending machines to display the calorie content of all food items. The FDA finalized the regulations April 3.
If you know the calorie content of an item, you might make a more healthy choice. Or so the thinking goes.
The agency admits 95 percent of the companies affected by the new rules are small businesses, such as Ohio’s Enterprise Refreshment Solutions.

..Nationally, the FDA estimated businesses will incur $40 million in additional costs — $25.8 million for initial implementation with a “recurring cost of approximately $24 million.”
Does the FDA expect vending companies to eat the cost of the regulation?
“Unfortunately, that is realistic to expect,” Heaton said. “Just knowing the industry, the costs and the prices, there will be companies that struggle with the cost, the needed manpower, the labor and the printing to be able to cover the mandate with their current prices.”..read the full story HERE.

I am glad that the government, which we authorize to regulate businesses so as to protect us as citizens, is finally mandating that vending machines be required to display the nutritional content of the products which it is vending.
I as a consumer have the right to know the nutritional content of foods before I purchase them. This is good regulation, long overdue, and will hopefully help people realize what fat asses they are when they buy their junk garbage chips and snacks.
Bubba, if they don't know it by now, it's because they don't care to know it and doubling the cost of the product because of useless meddling govt 'intervention' will only drive these small mom & pop operations out of business putting that many more in need. Just because you put it out there does not mean anyone will read it. You cannot legislate stupidity, but apparently stupid people can legislate.
Do you really need to know the nutritional value of that candy bar before you buy it?
