What were Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Freedomworks Thinking?

Senate hopeful Greg Brannon is running in a crowded Republican field to take on Democrat Kay Hagen in North Carolina. He was recently endorsed by Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Freedomworks. But exactly why? Here's just a few red flags they might have considered before lending their names and support:

1. Oops, Brannon didn't pay his property taxes. No big deal, his wife forgot. They have since been paid.

2. He failed to file an ethics disclosure within 30 days of becoming a candidate, required by federal and state law. Another no big. The campaign said they filed it, but admit to having some trouble doing so. Just disappeared, I guess.

3. Last month, he was found liable for misleading investors in a civil securities fraud case, and ordered to pay $250,000 to investors. Reports say he owes up to half a million. But not to worry! He's appealing, and claims he will be vindicated, despite the jury's verdict.

4. Brannon admitted to not voting for Mitt Romney in 2012. He said it would be a vote for tyranny:

"Casting a vote for either Obama or Romney will advance tyranny since both candidates are committed statists who despise the Constitution."

"Voters need to vote in light of the obvious truth that no substantial difference exists between Barack Hussein Obama and Willard 'Mitt' Romney . . . the correct practical strategy would have been to vote for anyone else on the ballot. Voting third party will help foster political change."

Ah, okay. Hard to argue with logic like that . . .

To wrap it up, Brannon:
Didn't pay the taxes for his million dollar home on time - check.
Failed to file a financial report required by law - check.
Guilty of fraud - check.
Doesn't vote for Republican candidates - check.
Discourages others from voting Republican - check.
Uses nonsensical divisive rhetoric alienating half of voting Republicans - check.

The latest poll shows Brannon and Thom Tillis tied for the lead. That probably won't last long. Why did Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Freedomworks endorse Greg Brannon?  My estimation of both Paul and Lee just took a nosedive. Freedumbworks, I understand.

Maybe we should vett some of these unknown tea party candidates before we jump on board.

Just a thought . . .

Thanks Bos! I removed the last pic because it was not showing up - at least for me. You can try putting it back.

Today's New 2016 GOP Poll:

Mike Huckabee 18%
Jeb Bush 15%
Chris Christie 14%
RAND PAUL 14%
Ted Cruz 11%
Marco Rubio 6%
Paul Ryan 5%
Scott Walker 5%
Bobby Jindal 4%

Nice to see Mr. Ryan down to 5%.

It's a sorry field, with the one bright light being Paul Ryan. If Romney were being included in these polls, he would be on top--as well he should be.

Romney nationally would be around Ted Cruz's level at 10-12% tops. Sorry, Martha.

Jeb, Christie, and of course, Huckabee are much stronger candidates and would not lose every single 13 swing states (but one) like Romney. Ouch.

Anon, well it might be your opinion, but it doesn't square with the facts. When he is included in polls, he's tops.

This idiot voted for tyranny by not voting for Romney.

cimbri, yeah. He really is an idiot, and it gripes me that Paul and Lee are wasting political capital to push an unelectable person, when there are others who can win that seat.
