The Romney 16 Buzz just Won't Go Away

Ask Mitt Romney if he would run for president a third time, and he will deny it every which way.
“I’ve had my turn,” he told CNN.
“We’re so ready to watch the next person step up and take that nomination,” his wife told Fox News. “Oh, no, no, no. No, no, no, no, no. No, no, no,” Romney told The New York Times.
But in recent weeks, a strange thing has happened: Some supporters and donors, pollsters and pundits are starting to suggest — without irony — that the former Massachusetts governor run for president in 2016.
“Once a month, someone would e-mail or call and say he should run again,” said Ron Kaufman, a longtime Romney adviser. “Now I get it every day — from the grass roots, and from donors. I get it every day.”
Kaufman made clear that there was no behind-the-scenes maneuvering to persuade Romney to run again. A second Romney adviser said he was also approached frequently by former supporters and donors, asking him to persuade Romney to run again in 2016.
Has any other former GOP Nominee ever attempted it twice you ask?
The last candidate to win his party’s nomination a second time was Richard M. Nixon, who after losing the 1960 election to John F. Kennedy was nominated again in 1968 and defeated Hubert Humphrey to win the White House. Romney supporters have pointed to another historical example: Ronald Reagan ran three times (though he was not the party’s nominee until his third try).
Supporters also note that Romney, who is now 66, would be 69 years old in 2016 — the same age as Reagan when he was sworn into his first term.

They're digging pretty hard to find this Romney "buzz." That's what's know as headline trolling.

The conventional wisdom is right until it's wrong. It's possible for Romney to be the nominee, but the right circumstances would need to come about.

So far, the formidable Christie is faltering, and Rand and Rubio both have difficult decisions to make. Ryan doesn't look like he wants to run. That's 4 top people who might be out. It really hurts the field.

Walker, Jindal, Kasich compared to Romney? Um no. When examined up close, they don't make the cut. That leaves people like Perry, Santorum and Cruz. Not your best hope, lol. Jeb, heck I don't know what to make of him. But Romney is certainly a better idea.

SO, you just never know what might develop.

The truth can only be hidden for so long. All of Mitt's appearances recently demonstrate he is as firm morally and personally practical as he has ever been--not the wishy washy, go where the wind in blowing politician so many desperately painted him as being. He's a tough, grounded man, even though many don't want to see that. Mitt will only be all the more resolved in his convictions as he grows older and luckily those convictions are all about doing the right thing and basically tidying things up, which is what is needed for the country.

Well there may in deed be a buzz for Mr. Romney, but there is certainly a bigger buzz for at least 2 dozen others.

"Walker, Jindal, Kasich" To one degree or another, they are all good governors, but Mr. Walker is the only one to cut it.

Yes, there's 'buzz' about other too OJ< but those other's are jokes. You seriously don't expect indy's and normal thinking GOP's to vote for someone like Cruz, do you? I don't, that's for sure.

Well, Ellie, if Mr. Romney is supposedly more serious than Mr. Cruz, why did he only show up for one of the 3 debates against Mr. Obama? Why did he chose a tax and spend liberal to be his running mate? Lots of questions to be answered.

Doesn't seen they need to dig hard to find this. Republican field is weak for 2016. Romney did well. He runs, he will have my vote.

Pretty sure Bush, Santorum, Curz would be a bad idea.

+1

The "others" are poor candidates without the knowledge or ability needed to be President. Not to mention electabilty.

+1 exactly

Joe, why did Reagan defeat Carter ? (Hint: It had nothing to do with Reagan being a conservative.)

He was told by campaign advisors to back off in debates 2&3. IMO, it was the correct strategy given his stellar 1st debate performance, the hurricane and polling numbers.

It does seem like Romney is testing the waters. The Romney 2.0 reboot has been pretty popular. Maybe that documentary being released wasn't just some one off situation. A lot of people are starting to realize that Hillary might be a paper tiger so why let the jugheads have the presidency? We need a steady hand at the helm.

Gee OJ, i thought he WAS there. And what exactly would Palin, Cruzie or anyone else do better? yell and scream and throw a hissy fit? Yea, that's presidential.

Ellie,

Why does everything in the world go back to Palin in your little world? Obsessed much? It is so pathetic how jealous you are of her. Seek help....you are a sick person.

BTW....Romney ISN'T RUNNING. It really is time for you Rombots to let it go. He tried, ran a terrible campaign and lost. I personally like the man but if the GOP runs him again in 2016...they are going to lose.

How many presidential elections do Romney and other MODERATE Republicans have to lose before people finally accept the fact that moderates ARE NOT ELECTABLE?

Romney-2012, McCain-2008, Dole-1996 & Bush-1992 all ran as moderates, AND THEY ALL LOST BIG.

Bush-2000/2004 ran as a hybrid candidate - conservative on social issues, moderate on fiscal issues - and lost the popular vote on his first try, but won it on his second, BOTH TIMES BY RAZOR THIN MARGINS.

Reagan-1980/1984/1988(Bush 41 campaigned as Reagan's 3rd term) ran as a full-spectrum conservative, AND WON 3 LANDSLIDE ELECTIONS.

In modern-day presidential politics, the facts are clear: conservative Republicans win big, moderate Republicans lose big, and hybrid Republicans win or lose by the skin of their teeth.

Ted Cruz has made this very point himself, and I expect him to make it more and more frequently - and convincingly - as we head towards 2016.
