Chris Christie's New Jersey Least Economically Solvent State

Another commonly used argument for Christie's candidacy goes up in smoke.
George Mason University's Mercatus Center released a working paper Thursday ranking the solvency of the 50 states by a number of factors--from "liquidity and budgetary balance" to "reliance on debt to finance current and long-term expenditures and ability to pay for essential services." They further subdivided the category of solvency generally into cash solvency, budget solvency, long-run solvency, and service-level solvency.
The study finds that New Jersey is in the worst financial state of any state in the union generally, while also being the worst in budget and long-run solvency.....
His predecessor's fault, you say? Not so fast - New Jersey taxes and spending have both increased since Christie replaced the Liberal John Corzine.
....Christie has repeatedly highlighted the fact that New Jersey is the largest donor state of taxes in the country-- paying far more than it receives in federal tax funding--but has done little to change this pattern. On the contrary, the tax burden on the average New Jersey family has increased 18.6% under Christie. That is not to say that Christie is exclusively responsible for the dire economic situation in the state--Governor Jon Corzine shut down the government because the legislature refused to pay taxes-- but nothing seems to have improved since Christie's time in office, despite Christie running a campaign based in large part on economic recovery. Under his tenure, 25% of New Jersey's youth are moving back in with their parents and rampant crime is overtaking urban centers like Newark and Camden....
He most definitely inherited a mess, but has done very little to turn it around. It's time to end the charade. Chris Christie's record does not match his rhetoric.

Great post, RW. Right on the money, as usual.

Christie's record as NJ governor is all hat, no cattle. All sizzle, no steak. All talk, no walk.

Here's another very good summary of THE BULLY'S fiscal and economic FAILURES in NJ, and why they DOOM his prospects of winning the GOP nomination in 2016 -

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/11/11/don-t-believe-the-chris-christie-hype-look-at-his-economic-record.html

When 2016 primary voters learn the FACTS - as opposed to the media-generated MYTHS - about THE BULLY'S record as NJ governor, his popularity will plummet, just like Rudy Giuliani's popularity plummeted during the 2008 presidential election cycle when voters finally learned the truth about him.

I really wish conservatives would stop dissuading Republicans from running in Northeastern states. Some of you are responsible for us being ethically cleansed from up there. Try to be supportive and come out of the Heritage bubble. Thank you.

Sorry, ethnically cleansed. I have yet to hear the social conservatives apologize for what they have done to us up there. They continue, full steam ahead into the oblivion.

This isn't about Republicans running for office in the NE.

Cimbri is right. So called socons need to leave OUR party or get in line.

Right Wingnut said...

This post isn't about socons. I'm not even a socon myself. This is about Christie's shitty fiscal record, which was supposed to be his calling card, along with his supposed bi-partisan appeal, which has been effectively destroyed over the past week.

Whiner Christie always talking about NJ being a donor state to the red state takers.

I have social conservative views, but it doesn't define my politics. Thing is, you can't win a national election without the single issue voters.

All polititians aside from a handful are corrupt, self-serving, lying thieves. Their records prove it time and again.

I never would have suspected that this would have been New Jerseys economic climate. It is really neat that they can see these ling term trends like this. I think it will be able to help them in the long run though.
