I am waiting for Pablo to come out of the woodwork and defend Mr. Christie as the 'only adult in the room.' We Right Winger warned that Mr. Christie was a loose cannon ready to explode. Unfortuanately, we are correct once again.

Robert Costa says Christie and inner circle were up late thinking through next step. Hahahahahaha!

Says a lot. And it's not good.

Martha,

"The next step."

One would think it would be fairly simple if he truly wasn't aware of any of this until yesterday.

RW, yes. What next steps. There's only one. This indicates a more complicated picture.

Bosman, thanks for embedding the live feed. I had trouble getting it to work for some reason.

Bret Baier reports that Christie had been calling Gov. Cuomo for the past several weeks to try to stop the investigation of the lane closures.

Right Wingnut said...

I'm sure the New York media will get to the bottom of this. There's no escaping scrutiny in that part of the country.

Excellent address from Christie.

Ha ha. He just called himself a candidate, then corrected himself and said gov. This 'apology' is not about NJ, it's about the Republican primary.

He sounds anxious, but someone stitched him up and he was unaware. It's just like a Sibelius situation withy OB. Govs or Prez's can't micro manage everything. So much got to be on trust.

I can relate to the combative demeanor he's exhibiting in this press conference. I share that trait. For that reason, I know Christie is not capable of enduring a very long national campaign without completely losing it.

Right Wingnut said...

Whether or not he survives this, the bloom is off the rose.

Right Wingnut said...

...and I'm not nearly as combative as that guy. At least in person. Not even close.

There are certain internet users whom decide, or perhaps in an uncontrollable fashion, to develop unhealthy attractions and pursuement of individuals: http://www.mentalhealth.com/p20-grp.html

He's more upset about his staff lying to him than his administration abusing their power, or the trouble that thousands had to endure with the lane closure. In fact, he's said very little about that.

Plus, he just said he's not angry yet. He's pretending that he didn't know a THING until yesterday morning. That's just too hard to believe. He's asking us to believe he's completely clueless.

He also wants us to believe that his staff acting like this is an aberration. That is just too hard to believe. More likely is that his staff was taking the lead in attitude and strategy from him.

In what kind of government are two lanes closed on the busiest bridge in the country, and yet not a single official knows exactly why the lanes have been closed? It just boggles the mind.

His annoyance is really starting to show now. He clearly doesn't like answering the same question twice. Really easy to push his buttons.

The bloom is off the rose, folks.

RW, yes, that has been my worry about Christie from day one. His persona is a strength, but also a great weakness.

Hogwash. She's been with him for over 5 years. He knows her well, and more importantly, SHE KNOWS HIM. That is why she and others did what they did. Give me a break. People who buy this crap are naive.

Unfortunately, there are those who choose to pursue singular individuals via the internet. Very bad conduct.

Rush asks a good question. Christie claimed that he's been unable to sleep for TWO NIGHTS because of this. Why TWO nights. I thought he just found out yesterday.....

I have to quit politics. Just a couple days ago I said we needed unity, and to stop beating up on each other. I vowed to be different. But I can't do it. This Christie flap showed that I can't do. While I understand Republicans coming to his defense, this was indefensible and portends trouble if he's the nominee. Sure what the dems do is worse, it always is pretty much. That doesn't mean we can't be honest with ourselves about obvious things.

I do see why people want a fighter, and Christie is one. I see why people can sort of admire his performance today. But that is all it was--a performance.

I just saw this whole Christie flap and so I decided to read Right Speak as I knew it would be big news here.

My own opinion: If Christie is involved in any way in this, then there is no way that I could support him in 2016.

If he is not involved, then he needs to take extra steps to ensure that no scandal like this happens again.

I sincerely hope the man is not involved as I am in love with his approach to politics. However, corruption is corruption. I would rather the GOP being taken completely by the crazies then support somebody who stopped traffic out of retribution.

Finally, an executive who holds his aides accountable for their blunders. Governor Christie fires people, Hillary, with regards to Benghazi is no where to be found during the crisis, claims she doesn't know what happened. None of her top aides were fired. This is what America needs, leadership and accountability. Our frontrunner did us proud today.

RomneyMan said...

Good points cimbri.

Right Wingnut said...

Uh.....it may take a week or two for it to sink in, but he won't be the "frontrunner" for much longer.

cimbri said...

RW, we'll see what the next round of polls say. I don't think the average person cares. You guys didn't care at all how many thousands of people got hurt during Cruz's shutdown posturing, but now you claim to be worried about a few people inconvenienced. Crocodile tears. People will remember that a few guys under Christie screwed up and he fired them.

Right Wingnut said...

Cimbri, anyone who objectively looks at the details of this story will come away with the impression that he knew more about this than he admitted to. Even if he wasn't in on it from the beginning. Furthermore, I'm almost certain that more unsavory scandals will be uncovered as a result of all this. He now has the full attention of the vicious NY media. Not good. Not good at all.

Anonymous said...

RW, alas, most people aren't going to dig into the details.

For me, I don't think it even matters if he was directly involved, he's still responsible for a pretty stupid and blatant abuse of power by his closest associates. And it says a lot about his judgment, leadership and influence. Standing there claiming responsibility like some hero doesn't cut it for me. Plus, there are too many holes in the story.

People on the right need to see this for what it is: a giant red flag.

The biggest stumbling block for me is the redacted emails that were most certainly reviewed by an attorney representing the administration before being turned over. A Deputy Chief Of Staff doesn't redact her own emails before complying with a court order. Christie had to know the contents of the emails. You don't leave the Gov out of the loop on that. Especially a former US Attorney.

cimbri said...

People make assumptions, but discount the transgression if they like the politician. They figure Obama knew what the IRS was up to with the tea parties. They know the boss isn't clueless. So they might assume that Christie knew of the lane closures. Even if he knew, it means very little to me. I'm still more disgruntled about his convention speech than this.

Pretty sure Sarah Palin cannot wait to say something about Christie. NOt a matter of if, but when. Wonder when her next FOX appearance is. lol

Given the propensity of misdeeds are all too commonplace in politics today , I am not sure this particular scandal is the knockout blow some may feel it is. Many a politician has survived to fight another day when caught in the midst of scandal, this is nothing new. I would even dare say the only reason this story has reached the level it has is simply because of the potential implications on the political aspirations of the individual at the center of the controversy. When the dust settles, I expect there will not be any long term effects as a result of this scandal. There have been far worse scandals in politics that merit closer scrutiny, not to mention the dismissal or removal of the individual involved, but in the end the individual has survived, etc. And yes, there is a definite double standard when it comes to these types of scandals, who gets a pass and who gets crushed by it. is it fair? Not really. Who said life was fair?

Right Wingnut said...

He's done.

Although I don't believe him, I will concede he was effective in the press conference. Problem is, that has emboldened his political opponents. He's made a lot of enemies over the years, and they smell blood.

It may not be immediately apparent, but I can assure you that Chris Christie is burnt toast.

RW, he pretty much summed up what I think about Christie. (When some of us said these things, we were told we were being ridiculous.) It's nice to see someone put it so well.
