Is Paul Ryan the New Leader of the GOP?

It is very hard for the party not in charge of the White House and without a current presidential nominee to define a single leader of the party. The heads of the national parties are logistics operators and money raisers most often. Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, has expanded that role somewhat with an after-report on the election suggesting significant changes in the party, but still no one (including Priebus) would say he sets the agenda for the GOP. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is a good candidate for “the leader” role since he sits atop the only body under GOP control, does move the agenda and as of last week told the party who wasn’t in charge (the right-wing critics). Still, he is not the policy innovator and will not much affect Senate races nor run for the presidency. The governors collectively might be said to be at the vanguard of the party, but none has yet drawn together the entire party; obviously you can’t run the national agenda from Trenton, N.J., or Madison, Wis.
However, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) at least for now has as good a claim as anyone to the informal role as head of the GOP.
He is the party’s policy wonk, to be sure. Whether on entitlement reform, tax reform, the budget or most anything else he has moved the House R’s to action, thereby setting the party up to win the House and press its conservative agenda. He largely ignited the party’s support for entitlement reform. He’s working on immigration reform. Expect a healthcare reform bill from him. And of course he brokered and then sold to his conference the budget deal to allow the party to focus on Obamacare.

Yes! If RINOS need a leader it's him.

The rank and file are moving to the Right, but Mr. Ryan is moving to the Left. Not exactly a good fit.

Ryan is not a RINO, he still enjoys the favor of conservatives by a pretty healthy margin. I trust him, and like him unless or until he gives me reason otherwise.

I will tell you who IS NOT a leader of the GOP: Anyone who defends or aligns themselves with Duck Dynasty low lifes. You know, people like CRUZ, PALIN, or JINDAL. hahahahaha.

Our culture is seriously out of whack that these creeps are one of the most popular shows. Sad day in America. I'm glad they have been outed as the losers they are. Anyone who supports them are LOSERS. Once again, the FAR RIGHT GRANDSTANDERS are making Republicans look bad. Good gravy.

Don't give me any First Amendment BS, either. NO ONE should touch this situation with a 100-foot pole.

"Ryan is not a RINO" No quite, but he certainly continues to move in that direction.

Martha, Mr. Duck is not running for President, but you heterophobia tirade against Mr. Duck is just plain crazy talk. You do not like it when people make fun of your religion, it is thus high time for you to show some sexual and religious tolerance.

Supports amnesty for 11 million law breaking illegals.

No, he's not a RINO.

Martha, last I checked, your church doctrine supports what Mr. Duck said 100%. I sense some divergence from your church on that. I know little about them, since I've never watched the show, but from what I can tell, they're far from losers.

Oh my, why does my church get into almost every comment directed to me here? You know, I don't even know what all your faiths are, but please.

Anyway, the show has been an embarrassment to the human race since the first 2 minutes of production. I will come back later when I have time and go over the comments he made and why Republicans should just stay away from these people.

Ok, so homosexuality is fine by you. I get it. Freedom of speech is also part of this (for me, the biggest part), but you don't seem to be a big fan of that either. This isn't something he said on air.

http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-TV/2013/12/19/Openly-Gay-Camille-Paglia-Anti-Duck-Dynasty-Crusade-Utterly-Fascist-and-Utterly-Stalinist-PC-Culture

On Thursday's Laura Ingraham radio show, liberal feminist professor and columnist Camille Paglia slams the backlash over the controversial remarks made by "Duck Dynasty" standout Phil Robertson:

"I speak with authority here because I was openly gay before the 'Stonewall Rebellion,' when it cost you something to be so," she said. "And I personally feel as a libertarian that people have the right to free thought and free speech. In a democratic country, people have the right to be homophobic as they have the right to support homosexuality -- as I 100 percent do. If people are basing their views against gays on the Bible, again they have a right to religious freedom there … to express yourself in a magazine in an interview -– this is the level of punitive PC, utterly fascist, utterly Stalinist, OK, that my liberal colleagues in the Democratic party and on college campuses have supported and promoted over the last several decades. It's the whole legacy of the free speech 1960's that have been lost by my own party."

RW, okay, under duress, I read the article again, and was forced to remember exactly what he said. (gag, he's positively repulsive, so this was no small feat.)

First, comparing what I believe about homosexuality and what he said, (and the way he says anything), is like comparing squirrel meat to prime rib. Technically, they are both edible, but who wants to attempt the squirrel? Not me. Not very appetizing! So yes, I absolutely believe any sexual behavior outside of marriage between a man and a woman is wrong. I just don't see the need to debase the topic by talking about body parts or bestiality, and I would never be found defending him. (That I have to explain this is troubling to say the least.)

My point about this fake dust up is that these people are not a good face for Christians or conservatives or Republicans, so people like Palin and Cruz should just--for once--not play right into the lefts hand, and give the American public a reason to think this is really who conservatives are! DD people are the living, breathing worst possible caricature of Christians or conservatives.

Plus, this is reality TV. These backwoods backwards people are PAID to be extreme. However, A&E has a bottom line, as well they should, and can fire him for whatever reason they want to.

This is not about free speech. THIS IS NOT ABOUT FREE SPEECH. This man can say whatever the hell he wants just as can you and I. Anyone making a fuss about free speech here must have a lot of free time on their hands. lol

He's a reality TV star, and for some reason, resonates with red states. Goodness, I wish this were not true.

You call them backwoods, as if they're 2nd class citizens. Is the long hair and beards that bothers you? I did a little research on the duck clan. Turns out they're all college educated, and were millionaires before they did the reality show. Not all successful people look like the Romneys. Lol

Their business did $40 million in revenue in 2012, not including the tv show. These are not dumb people.

Interesting that Ne was the starting QB at louisiana Tech. Terry Bradshaw was his backup. Had a chance to play in NFL, but didn't want to miss duck season. Lol

Phil Robertson is the epitome of the American dream.

Right Wingnut said...

Martha, with all due respect, your being a snob tonight.

RW, I didn't say they weren't smart. They clearly are, in order to build what they have.

Yes, the beards really really bother me. In fact, it's impossible to explain just how much I hate their dirty beards. Heavens, I feel sorry for their wives. No amount of money is worth that.

Just their ugly pic on Drudge puts a damper on the Christmas spirit, doesn't it?

I'd rather look at that picture than one of Miley Cyrus bending over, to be honest. And I'm a guy.

Right Wingnut said...

Photo of Robertson from his football days. Looks like a different guy. He would have fit right in at your church at the time. Haha, just a joke. Lighten up.

RW, Yeah, the Miley thing is the worst. I just can't take seeing one more pic of her.

Ha. they said they'll walk. Let them. What a nice Christmas present for us all!

They'll just enjoy their $400 million fortune for a year or so, and join another network. I doubt they'll lose much sleep. Given the brisk sales if their merchandise over the last few days, I don't think they'll be applying for food stamps any time soon.

By the way, look at all of the free advertising they 're getting with this, and imagine the massive audience that will tune in to their new show on Fox.

It's just a terribly funny headline that Walmart sold out of Duck stuff. lol

-Martha

Right Wingnut said...

Thing is, A & E makes a chunk off those sales. They should be buying the Duck Commander brand merchandise if they want to punish A & E and support the ducks.
