Obamacare Fallout: 500,000 Californians Lose Health Policies

According to this link as of December 2012, there were 491,977 covered lives in individual health care plans regulated by the state Department Insurance that are not grandfathered under the Affordable Care Act. (If they bought a plan after March 2010, their coverage is not grandfathered.) This is a 2012 number, but if the number of people with private coverage hasn’t changed much in the last ten months, that’s half a million Californians who will lose their coverage.
According to this link (hit the Enrollment Summary Report) from the state office that regulates managed care providers, there were about 50,000 individual and 60,000 PPO policies that were not grandfathered at the end of the year, which would add another 110,000. (Department of Managed Health Care has not returned my call to confirm these number. In that stories report that Kaiser sent out cancellation notices to 160,000, this number seems low to me.) Either way, you get to 600,000 or more.

I know...I know...it's Mexifornia..Big Obama supporters...They get what they deserve. I feel the same way about any of these 500,000 that supported Obama and ODummycare.

The rules now are if the older plan don't come up to scratch, then it must be upgraded. THis is fair enough, considering some didn't cover much.

Some peope may end up paying more- but they get better coverage.

i.e some may pay more for their new car, but it settles down when they find out their new car is better.

RM, they DON'T WANT 'better' coverage. They had the coverage they wanted. They don't want to pay 50-150% more per year. Duh.

RM, We pay cash for our cars, and never ever buy new cars. They are a huge waste of money. My (old) BMW was hit by a nice little old man last year, and I have not replaced it. Now I'm driving our '96 Infiniti. It has some dings from most of our kids, and me. Ha ha. But I actually like driving it because I don't care what people think, and because it's been paid for from day one. I don't want a new car. And I don't want the gov to force me to buy a new car.

*Better* in this regard also means minimum standards.

There needs to be a minimum standard. The Government have hence researched and analysed comprehensively what constitutes a minimum standard plan.

It's not "better coverage." At least not my employer sponsored plan. Fortune 100 company, which means this is likely playing out the same for 10s of millions of Americans.

RW, exactly right. In this case, so-called 'better' coverage means the coverage Obama wants you to have, not what you yourself knows you need.

And Obama lied through his teeth--just as he lies about EVERYTHING.

Yes. Better coverage is the panacea word liberals are using to justify their decision to rob Americans of freedom. I don't need 15 types of contraception with abortion coverage. I also don't need fertility treatments. I should be able to say no to some things but am not allowed by law to do so. Hobby Lobby has been in court because they only cover 10 or 11 of the contraceptives required, the others involving abortifacients or expelling a potential fetus, and the owner's religious freedom is being violated by requiring them to cover those. Religious people are losing their rights to actually act on their religion and it's another ho hum to libs who are determined to run our lives.

Of course Obama lied. How people could not see that he was lying is beyond my ability to understand. Mitt was considered the liar, even though he had real experience in healthcare; Obama is trustworthy because he used to smoke pot and do drugs, or has told the truth about Benghazi, or is black, or believes in abortion, or is a democrat and they never lie.... Same reasons people thought Dhokar Tsarnaev is a better American than Mitt, no doubt.
