Ted Cruz to House Republicans: You're On Your Own

Jonathan Strong from National Review writes:

With Speaker John Boehner embracing the push to defund Obamacare in the House bill to fund the government, the battle will soon be moving to the Senate, which is controlled by Democratic majority leader Harry Reid.

It’s hostile territory for the effort, and since the initial calls to push for defunding Obamacare came from Senate Republicans, there’s added pressure on the strategy’s architects to make it a major fight.

Senator Mike Lee is organizing a messaging push to pressure Reid to hold an “up or down” vote. Lee and other Senate Republicans who devised the strategy will “fight like hell” to push it through the Senate, Lee’s spokesman Brian Phillips says.

------------

Oh really?  Here’s “fight like hell” Cruz:

"Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will no doubt try to strip the defund language from the continuing resolution, and right now he likely has the votes to do so.  At that point, House Republicans must stand firm, hold their ground, and continue to listen to the American people."

“Right now, I can tell you, the people who are fighting the hardest against our efforts to defund Obamacare are not Democrats, it’s Republicans. It’s Republicans who have been leading the onslaught, trying to stop this. Because they’re afraid of the political risk. They’re afraid of being blamed politically.”

Reaction from the House: "We didn't have a meeting, but I think we're all surprised and pissed - they're preemptively giving up and we haven't even passed the damned bill yet!" - House leadership aide.

Nice strategy, Senator. It turns out that you'd rather fight Republicans than Democrats. You accuse Republicans of fear and weakness, and then try to kill the effort to defund--right out of the gate. Now who is afraid of political risk?

So Mr. Cruz, you are all hat no cattle today. We are about to find out what happens when your rhetoric meets reality. Time to PUT UP or SHUT UP. I hope you wake up tomorrow ready to FIGHT LIKE HELL. Your supporters believe you are talented, smart, and the one to lead. Now is the time to start proving that you are.

Read about it here, here, and here.  And everywhere, because if there's one thing Republicans know how to do, it's get negative press. Thanks, Ted.

I never thought I'd write this, and for emphasis, I'll put it in capitals...wait for it:

I 100% AGREE WITH BOSMAN

How long have I've been saying that he's a real-life Waldorf and Statler. He's like one of those attention disorder people, who crave attention and can only get it by deliberately being controversial, offering nothing of solution, or as you've pointed out, selectively apportioning blame.

Well thanks RomneyMan.

Unfortunately, I Didn't write this piece....MARTHA did.

hahahaha....Now you can't take it back without looking like a fool.

Now, do I agree with Martha? hmmmm...I'm sure I do on 'most' issues....BUT NOT ALL.

Okay, I retract my statement.

I don't agree with the piece

9 month wonderboy might be ticked off because he can't get press out of it and also a repeal and REPLACE bill was submitted, not simple a defund.

You didnt call anything. Cruz won, along with some help from Mike Lee and millions of American people calling their reps. Cruz is getting most ofnthe credit for this. You guys are really delusional. Even if the defunding doesnt happen, it puts ObamaCare at the top of the headlines where iit belomgs. I cant understand for the life of mehow anyone so opposed to ObamaCare can be opposed to these efforts......unless your secretly FOR it.

Glad we have someone who will stand up to the President

RW, the point is that when push came to shove, Cruz wilted. Like I said, I think he'd rather stand up to Repubs than Obama.

We'll see what happens, but it sure wasn't very smart to throw it all under the bus from the get go.

Bosman, I hope we don't part ways on who to support in 2016. I truly don't because I value your opinion more than most, and I trust your judgment! :-)

Ellie, 9 month wonderboy indeed!

RW, I'm for defunding ObamaCare when everyone is on board, and polls show it won't hurt Repubs. There has to be a lot of momentum for it.

For a moment yesterday, everyone was on board, REepubs united. Till Cruz opened his mouth.

We'll see what happens. Hoping for the best.

" I think he'd rather stand up to Repubs than Obama." That describes the Speaker of the House to an absolute T.

Obama frequently indicates that Congress is in charge. And others agree with his helplessness.

The New York Times of September 17th 2013 reported on the powerful Republicans in their article, "As Budget Fight Looms, Obama Sees Defiance in His Own Party."

“If you read the papers, you almost think the Republicans are in control,” said Senator Bernard Sanders of Vermont, an independent who caucuses with Democrats and vigorously opposed Mr. Summers until he withdrew from consideration. “They’re constantly on the offensive. Democrats are on the defensive.”

We are all concerned about blocking ObamaCare, at least everyone except that neo-nazi conservative RomneyMan. He seems to ignore the IRS and NSA pattern of high crimes, their violations civil and human rights and attacks on free speech. Uh, most look down their nose on that 'brute force drone mentality.'

If the Senate, because of idiot Reid, fails to vote to defund ObamaCare, it is still on the Democrat Party. Their party cheerleader Pelosi urged them, "You have to pass the bill to read the bill." Doesn't get much dumber than the Democrat Party to act that way, to accept that dumb lady as their leader, and do what she says like sheep leading us all to the slaughter and fiscal cliffs.

If Harry Reid is considered gatekeeper, hang it on him. House should then pass a waiver for the American People from ObamaCare. This is fairness. Forget obama and his lobbyists, his monarchist Marquis de Sade elite types on 'The Hill.'

We've all seen Cruz's limits for a long time now. He forgets that he was born in Canada.

Anonymous said...

Anon, what do you mean he forgets he was born in Canada? What does it matter?

-Martha

Simultaneous to Cruz's forgetfulness, he puts himself out there as a Republican Presidential potential candidate in 2016. It is unconstitutional. There are specific criteria for those seeking to be our commander and chief, and Cruz is ignorant of those stipulations of our Constitution.

I do agree with Bosman's remarks yesterday on the issue of ObamaCare:

"Even Prisoners of War were only required to give name, rank, and serial numbers. Why should Obamacare be any different?"

Anonymous said...

Okay Anon. You must be Lori Patriot. Ha ha. Cruz us 100% eligible to be pres. It's simply a lie to say otherwise.

Bye everyone. Going to Cannon beach for the day. Gotta grab the good weather while we can!

Hi Martha,

Not to worry.

At this point I only know who I won't back for the GOP 2016 nomination... Christie, Bush, and Jindal for various reasons.

That said, WHOEVER the GOP nominee eventually is, I'll back that person.

Fighting against an unpopular law is obviously bad politics.

How about wonderboy start being a senator, and working with both sides to get a good bill to replace the bad one? Instead, he works with freedumbworks and has no ideas. Just fluff and bluff. He got his arse handed to him by that very party he calls 'rino's and 'establishment'. And he's not too happy about having his bluff called.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, that was me. Ellie.

Anonymous said...

Ellie, I think you are exactly right.

Cruz has the Rinos tight where he wants them. I doubt he cares much about what these people think or say about him. If he did, he would have hid under his desk a long time ago. This is what he was elected to do. And he's winning.

Right Wingnut said...

Some House Republicans are going on the record defending Cruz, which is more than can be said about the anonymous "staffers" used for the Huffington Post piece that inspired Martha's post.

Right Wingnut said...

Huffpo, Martha? Really? I know that your headline came from their article.

Anonymous said...

Yes, the headline came from that article, and that's why I included the link for it.
