Ted Cruz Should Memorize This Reagan Quote As Well

Ted Cruz would have called Reagan scared.  "When I began entering into the give and take of legislative bargaining in Sacramento, a lot of the most radical conservatives who had supported me during the election didn't like it.  "Compromise" was a dirty word to them and they wouldn't face the fact that we couldn't get all of what we wanted today. They wanted all or nothing and they wanted it all at once. If you don't get it all, some said, don't take anything.  "I'd learned while negotiating union contracts that you seldom got everything you asked for. And I agreed with FDR, who said in 1933: 'I have no expectations of making a hit every time I come to bat. What I seek is the highest possible batting average.'  "If you got seventy-five or eighty percent of what you were asking for, I say, you take it and fight for the rest later, and that's what I told these radical conservatives who never got used to it."

CDS is alive and well, I'm almost tempted to join his camp for kicks.

"CDS" - credit default swap?

Sorry I'm not up-to-date on your lingo.

You take the 75-80% if thats all you can get, but when you're down by 4 runs with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, you have to go for the grand slam. Especially when the alternative is almost certain destruction of our health care system and economic well being.

I do recall that Pablo was not opposed to ObamaCare when it was first voted into law.

Keep the posts coming Pablo. Don't worry about the usual suspect of tools around here.

I believe OJ was referring to Cruz Derangement Syndrome. It's a sign that Cruz is doing the right thing when Pablo takes aim.

I think you've still got to be looking at a Cantor/Boehner ticket, or visa versa.

I believe my position all along has been that if I were a Congressman I would have voted against it for the mere fact that we ought to first use the states to test out various approaches to health care. However, having said that I also recognize that prior to 2009 it was the Republican approach to health care. I also recognize that it is a bit early to know whether our health care system will benefit or weaken as a result of the law. My money is on the latter. It is certainly off to a bad start. So, yes, repeal it, but only when Republicans have the levers of power to do so electorally.

Reagan sounded just like a typical RINO in that quote Pablo posted at the start(although that's NOT how he campaigned for president).

So Reagan "got 75% of what he wanted" when he became the first governor in the nation to legalize abortion?

So Reagan "got 75% of what he wanted" when he approved the largest tax increase in California's history?

So Reagan "got 75% of what he wanted" when he appointed one liberal activist judge after another to the highest courts in the land?

So Reagan "got 75% of what he wanted" when he granted amnesty to 3 million illegal aliens?

So Reagan "got 75% of what he wanted" when his hand-picked RNC chairman signed a 1982 consent decree that PERMANENTLY PROHIBITED the RNC from implementing security measures at polling places in order to combat voter fraud?

So Reagan "got 75% of what he wanted" when he approved UNFUNDED MANDATES like the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act of 1986, which required hospitals to provide emergency healthcare services to anyone regardless of citizenship, legal status or ability to pay, with NO REIMBURSEMENT PROVISIONS for the hospitals providing the services?

So Reagan "got 75% of what he wanted" when he sold weapons - including WMD's - to Saddam Hussein and the Taliban?

So Reagan "got 75% of what he wanted" when he selected George ONE TERM-READ MY LIPS Bush as his running mate?

If that's "conservatism" in action, you can have it .

Sorry Reagan worshipers, but I'll take Ted Cruz over the "Gipper" every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Why on earth would any tool do that?!!

Primary elections, just like general elections, have consequences.

When Republican voters nominate "squishy", "house-trained", RINO candidates who toe the politically correct liberal line, they shouldn't be surprised when those candidates govern just like the Democrats do, sometimes even worse.

The notion that true reform-minded conservatives "can't get elected" is pure unadultered BS perpetuated by the liberal/RINO mass media.

Just give liberal Democrat officeholders enough rope, and they'll hang themselves, as sure as the sun will rise.

But that rarely happens because RINOs like Bush 43 and Bush 41 always come riding to the Dems' rescue by governing poorly too, thus sharing the blame, and sharing the public's wrath.

They don't, and will not. Besides, what makes you so confident that the Republicans would repeal it in 4 years?

A bunt single will not do right now. They need to swing for the fences. Cruz understands that.

It;s kind of sad that a discussion over defunding ObamaCare has devolved into a Reagan bash fest....

I have never bashed Reagan. He was a moderate Republican who worked with Democrats to try to do best for the country. He wasn´t always successful, but there is a lot that we can learn from him.
