That speech was very impressive. He does very well in a fundraiser setting. Very funny. Had the audience laughing throughout.

Also, no notes. Nobody else shows up and gives long speeches without, at a minimum, note cards with an outline. Not even Newt.

If I was to recommend ONE Cruz speech to someone, this would be the one.

If he continues to do this at fundraisers across the country, the Cruz 2016 buzz will grow exponentially. I may be a bit biased, since I liked him before watching this, but it was very, very good.

So I am doing my very best and trying really hard not to be overly critical of this speech, but the fact is I see no relevance to this particular speech. Typical political speech with no real substance. Grassroots? Now, that is a major issue for the day, right? No notes and/or teleprompter? No big deal. The fact is anyone with above average communication skills could have given this speech without notes. He is basically restating facts and telling stories he's probably told many times before. In terms of capturing an audience, his communication skills did not reach level 5 communication. His talking points on growth are similar to our former candidates talking points, but without the credibility behind it as he had. Key talking points like abolishing the tax code have been debated forever, and while popular there is nothing new to that message. Abolishing affordable care act is also a popular talking point today. I doubt he will have any success in accomplishing the goal of defunding it. The potential impact of this law is well known, no need to rehash these consequences. My apologies to those who think we can win this argument without severe consequences, we can't. He even acknowledges this, but then tries to turn it into the responsibility of the people. Nice in theory but not practical. Typical politicians closing statements, a mixture of more talking points combined with personal stories. I hate to say this, but conservatives do not always win when they articulate their positions, especially when an illiterate society chooses to ignore the truth. While his final words were well thought out, it still did not reach level 5 communication with the audience. Level #2, Restating Facts. Level #3, I Believe Statements, this is where the majority of his talk was communicated. Level#4, Conviction, he hit this plateau a few times, not many. Level #5, Conviction with Emotion, not there.

To Joel, only Romney hits the 5 mark constantly.

Cruz was born in Canada and his father was not an American citizen, but from Puerto Rico.

It is a morbid shame if any of the GOP brand, including Cruz, are confused by the issue of qualifications for the Presidency of the United States. Any so afflicted are imbeciles or traitors.

*One is either a natural born citizen at birth, or they aren't ever going to be one. That is the whole point of 'natural born citizen.' Cruz was not, and never can be. It is the condition of his birth, and that already happened. Upwards of 95% of Americans are natural born citizens. That is where we look for a president. @Foreign Born Cruz, do not waste our time.

8 month wonderboy. And I'm not overly impressed with his bombastic way of doing things. I hope the good people of Texas sit him down and tell him to stop running for president, and to start being their senator. That's what they hired him to be.

Well, I'm glad there's another national figure for Romney supporters to complain about for the next 3 years. Things would get quite boring around here otherwise. Meanwhile, good luck with Chris Christie and Jeb Bush.

Ellie, I agree, Cruz should get off the stage and just do his job for a while.

RW, I think Romney supporters are all over the map for 2016.

I fail to see the Cruz appeal. He just isn't all that. Not at all, and unless something fantastical happens to his personality or qualifications between now and 2016, he's just going to be another grandstanding also ran, IMO.

Note that any talk of immigration- which could lead to the entire nation becoming like California, was conspicuous in its absence.

@ Cruz Haters

Read it and weep -

http://www.newsmax.com/Politics/cruz-wins-straw-poll/2013/07/28/id/517437

Cruz came in FIRST with a whopping 45% of the vote.

Scott Walker, who delivered the keynote speech, came in a distant 2nd with 13%.

Sorry to ruin your day, Cruz Haters.

More bad news for the Cruz Haters -

http://coloradoindependent.com/128811/cruz-lights-up-colorado-conference-crowd-hungry-for-confident-conservative-message

Cruz received MULTIPLE STANDING OVATIONS from the 2000 Republican voters in attendance.

So much for Joel2013's CRAZY assertion that Cruz is an "average" speaker.

Right Wingnut said...

I knew he was good speaker, but did not realize how funny he is until I saw this speech.

More fun facts for the Cruz Haters -

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/05/19/cruz-eligible-presidential-run/

http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/343914/cruz-birthers-eliana-johnson

The vast majority of constitutional scholars agree that: NATURAL BORN CITIZEN = CITIZEN AT BIRTH = TED CRUZ

If the Founding Fathers wanted to include 2 citizen parents and birth on U.S. soil as part of their presidential eligibility requirements, THEY WOULD HAVE SPECIFICALLY SAID SO, instead of using the term "natural born citizen", which is SYNONYMOUS
with "citizen at birth".

Cruz has a great sense of humor which he easily conveys in his speeches.

He can just as easily bring his audience to tears with his passion, conviction and eloquence.

Any politician who can make his audience both laugh and cry owns that audience, and owns their votes as well.

He certainly owned the audience at that fundraiser. Many of the jokes were not planned. They just happened. his comedic timing is very impressive. The Biden joke was a classic.

Cruz:...."Vice president Joe Biden"

[Audience laughs]

Cruz (smiling): "You don't even need a punchline."

[More laughter from the audience]

Cruz: "All you have to do is say his name...."

LOL

I don't think there are any Cruz haters here. Just people who aren't wowed, and think he is overrated.

I suggest that the tool poster actually *watch and listen* to another of the 8 month man's talks.

And then the tool poster goes onto discuss the 'fresh' Biden joke.

If only the tool would actually watch another of his 'fresh' speeches with "Many of the jokes were not planned. They just happened. his comedic timing is very impressive. ", the tool would find that he repeats almost the same lines (including your 'fresh and hilarious Biden line) in them: Here's one for starters lol :

OK. So people laugh EVERY time Biden's name is mentioned. Not just at the NH fundraiser. I should have figured that. How many speeches did you have to sit through to find that? Hope you at least got some sleep!

RomneyMan said...

One actually- the last one that he did.
If you get your facts straight before you give grandiose statements, perhaps you will be seen less of an embarrassment.

Right Wingnut said...

You're right! Given how much of an embarrassment Biden is, I should have known that merely mentioning his name is all that is needed to generate laughter from the audience.

Will you be backing Uncle Joe in 2016, or are you still weighing your options?

RomneyMan said...

You were wrong- again.

Live with it and get over it.

Right Wingnut said...

Actually if you read my comment again, I wasn't wrong about anything.

RomneyMan said...

Grow up.

RWN: ""Many of the jokes were not planned. They just happened. his comedic timing is very impressive.""

As stated.

So impressive that they also *just happened* in other Cruz speeches too lol

Dude, are you obsessed? Do you know for certain that every joke he told was a repeat from previous speeches? Actually, is really even a critical point? I generally try to limit my online arguments to more important matters than whether a politician tells a joke more than once, so I'm done with this discussion.

RomneyMan said...

"so I'm done with this discussion"

YOu have- at last- made a correct decision.

Pity it wasn't before you either got your facts straight and didn't embarrass yourself even further.

P.S, the above 3 repeats were browser/connection issues, not obsessive one :-)

I do have a question for you though. I'm sure I'm not alone in wondering why an obvious Democrat (you) hangs out on a small blog such as this one day after day after day.

You also seem to have a lot of time on your hands. Are you one of the unfortunate victims if the Obama economy?

RomneyMan said...

"hangs out on a small blog such as this one day after day after day."

a) I like the fact that there is an unregistered chat box. Not many (any?) other GOP sites have those.

b)No, not a victim of the OB economy.

c) The Bosman guy is very fair in that he allows free speech, so long as no one's swearing, being overly offensive etc. Hats off to him there in fairness. Everyone will agree that that is rare.
