U of Penn Professor: There's "a fear of the end of whiteness"

In discussing the influx of pro-life sentiment nationwide and the introduction of abortion laws in different states, U of Penn associate professor of Africana Studies Salamisha Tillet conjectured it could be all about race:

"So I think that there's a kind of moral panic, a fear of the end of whiteness that we've been seeing a long time in that I think, you know, Obama's ascension as President kind of symbolizes to a certain degree. And so I think this is one response to that sense that there's a decreasing white majority in the country and that women's bodies and white women's bodies in particular are obviously a crucial way of reproducing whiteness, white supremacy, white privilege. And so I think it's just a kind of clamping down on women's bodies, in particular white women's bodies, even though women of color are really caught in the fray."

So her thinking, which they describe as "logic" on MSNBC, is that conservatives (who are all white, naturally /sarcasm) want to end abortion so that white women will have more babies and remain in the majority, but you know, women of color are "caught in the fray" because conservatives can't really care about them performing abortions on their babies. ???

What? The lack of logic is just.... *pulls out hair*

Look, professor, women of color are not "caught in the fray" of conservative pro-life legislation. Conservatives aren't hoping to end abortion just for white people. In fact, liberals were accusing conservatives of just the opposite not that long ago. Remember the billboard that upset so many people in New York City?

This one.

The mother of the little girl pictured on that billboard was irate that her daughter's image was used on a political billboard. The group who purchased the image and the billboard based their campaign on the alarming statistic that, "According to the Centers for Disease Control, the black abortion rate is three times that of whites and twice as high as all other races combined." Talk about 'caught in the fray'.

“The impact of abortion in the African-American community is the Darfur of America," says Walter B. Hoye II, president of the Issues4Life Foundation. Man, he sounds so racist, doesn't he? He should probably mind his own business and let Planned Parenthood mind (and build) theirs.

Mother Jones published a report quoting the little girl's lawyer as saying: "It's the statement that children of color are at risk because African-American women are exercising their right. That's the racist part, that African American women are dangerous to their children."

That was in April 2011.
Conservatives are racist for wanting to end the targeted abortion of minorities in cities.

This is June 2013.
Conservatives are racist for wanting to end abortion in order to proliferate the white majority.

So which is it, liberals?

Are they racist for wanting to protect black babies specifically? Or for wanting to protect white babies specifically?

Or maybe... just maybe... they want to protect ALL BABIES because it's been indicated by medical science that they do indeed feel pain and are human beings. Maybe they think killing them in the womb is wrong. Maybe they think killing them partially out of the womb is wrong. Maybe they think infanticide in general is wrong.

Nope. Not possible, implies Salamisha Tillet of U Penn. They must be panicky racists.

Thank you for this post. I, for one am a white woman and have great concern over all abortions done for mere convenience. I am also sorry that minority babies are at greater risk of death even than white babies due to this procedure. Margaret Sanger and others would be proud of all of the abortion deaths of those she and others deemed lesser races.
