Op-ed: Israel...a nation of strength and courage

Op-ed:
Israel...a nation of strength and courage
By: Diane Sori

Israel has warned time and again that they would attack Syria if they believed Bashar al-Assad's army was delivering weapons to Hezbollah...well a few short days Israel did just that as they took out a Damascus warehouse housing weapons that would be used against them.

With Israel now in a state of high alert, moving two Iron Dome systems to the northern area of the country, with the Israeli Airport Authority closing airspace in the central and northern areas to all civil aviation, and with it's embassies worldwide being placed on alert, Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement that Israel’s only interest in bombing the Damascus warehouse was to prevent advanced weaponry from reaching Hezbollah NOT regime change in Damascus.

And how did Assad responded to those words...by alluding to what is a declaration of war on Israel in retaliation, forgetting that a technical state of war already exists between the two countries, and has since Israel unilaterally annexed the Golan Heights in 1981, and by bloviating that Syria's retaliation will come, but will be on their own timetable, and that Israel won't know what is coming or when it's coming.

Yeah right (insert sarcastic voice here).

This latest attack, the second within three days, specifically targeted a shipment of advanced surface-to-surface Iranian-made Fateh-110s...a mobile, accurate, solid-fueled missile that has the range to strike Tel Aviv and much of Israel from southern Lebanon...missiles that were on their way to Hezzbolah through the arms pipeline that runs directly from Syria to Hezbollah in Gaza.

So the tensions in the Middle East have just been upped a notch for by doing what they did Israel showed the world that once again they are a force to be reckoned with.

Immediately after the attack Syrian state-run television reported that the Israeli attack was on a research facility, and that the attack aided the rebels fighting government forces in the area. And the government's Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) claimed mortar shells fired by terrorists damaged residential neighborhood. But as expected, these reports gave NO details about what type of research occurred at the facility or what civilian areas were damaged, because as Israel claims it was NOT a research facility the bombed but a weapons storage warehouse at Damascus International Airport...a warehouse that was under the control of operatives from Hezbollah and Iran’s paramilitary, very nasty Quds Force.

And least we forget, Iran has been sending weapons to Syria for decades and is Assad's staunchest ally. So might Israel's strike on Syria be a prelude to going into Iran. Just something that very well might be a possibility as Iran has sought to use the threat of a Hezbollah missile attack on Israeli as a means of building up its Syrian ally...an ally being used as a deterrent and warning to Israel that they dare NOT strike their nuclear 'for peaceful uses' (gag) facilities.

And how did this alliance between these two counties begin...briefly, the Iran/Syria alliance grew out of a common cause against two common enemies. First, Syria wants back the Golan Heights lost to Israel in the '67 War, and to keep veto power over Lebanese politics. Second, Iran wants to be a nuclear power, the only Arab nuclear power in the region. Third, Iran also wants to be a dominant force in the Middle East itself making sure they ultimately rule in Iraq. Fourth, both want to protect Arab interests and islamic interests (secular Arabic interests in the case of Syria and islamic ideological interests in the case of Iran) throughout the region. Fifth, both Iran and Hezbollah have backed President Bashar al-Assad in the Syrian civil war. And lastly, and most telling...both Syria and Iran want to see Israel wiped off the map.

So with Syria's goal being secular and Iran's being islamic, this ensures that the two do NOT step on each others toes as this alliance is defensive in nature, aimed for the most part at destroying Israeli military capabilities if NOT Israel itself, and preventing even more American involvement in the Middle East than already exists.

And what of Barack HUSSEIN Obama in all this...the man who is NO friend to Israel. Obama has refused to comment about the newest strike except to say his standard teleprompted line delivered with fingers crossed behind his back, "The Israelis, justifiably, have to guard against the transfer of advanced weaponry to terrorist organizations like Hezbollah."

'Israeli's have to guard against'...is that the best this man can do for our ally and friend. So once again Israel will go it alone and do what needs to be done without America standing side-by-side with them, and that my fiends is one sad commentary that could very well come back to bite us.
