Freedom from Facebook Day               https://www.facebook.com/events/537196809656099/
Date: Thursday, July 4, 2013...midnight to midnight

On July 4, 1776, the Founding Fathers signed a document laying out their case against King George, pledging to sacrifice their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to throw off the shackles of tyranny.

Today, Americans who use Facebook have a similar set of grievances against the largest social media site on the planet. They have been falsely accused and punished without the benefit of due process, and without the benefit of seeing the evidence against them. Many have found themselves blocked from using features for reasons that appear arbitrary and capricious.

In some instances, the bans have impacted livelihoods and reputations.

Many users have reached out to Facebook, but to no avail.

The time has come for those with grievances to let Facebook know that despite the denials, these issues are very real and will no longer be tolerated in silence.

For one day - July 4, 2013 - we ask users to stay away from Facebook. Don't even log in to the site. If you must use a social media site that day, use WePluribus, Tea Party Community, United Patriots, or something similar.

Use email, or better yet, pick up the phone.

We know that rules are necessary to keep sites like Facebook from devolving into anarchy, but they need to be fair, and they need to be enforced equally. Moreover, users of Facebook and other sites should at least have the same rights as suspects in criminal cases, and should be given an opportunity to see the evidence against them and given the opportunity to make things right.

Many have died to ensure we have the freedom to express ourselves without fear of reprisal. Now it is our turn to take a public stand for those hard-won freedoms.

Please invite your friends and spread the word.

Social media websites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have no constitutional or legal obligation to permit free speech.

The First Amendment prohibition of censorship applies to government censorship only(although the Federal Communications Commission and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting clearly violate this prohibition).

I think you're barking up the wrong tree trying to get Facebook to change its policies.

There are plenty of conservative websites where you are more free, to one degree or another, to speak your mind than you'll ever be at Facebook.

Sorry but you are WRONG. When FB started trading and selling on the public NYSE they lost certain rights awarded to privately held companies.

As for the other venues, many of us are already on them but it's preaching to the choir as they say. We use fb to try and get liberals to see the truth.

Oh goodness, going public just means that shares are open to the public to buy and must reveal some internal information. The company is still not obligated to allow free speech within the confines of the services they offer.

Diane, did you really write this.

'users of Facebook and other sites should at least have the same rights as suspects in criminal cases, and should be given an opportunity to see the evidence against them and given the opportunity to make things right.

Many have died to ensure we have the freedom to express ourselves without fear of reprisal. Now it is our turn to take a public stand for those hard-won freedoms."

hahahahahahahahaha.

Sorry, you are nuts. Get over yourself. Facebook is dead anyway.
