Boston Marathon Bombings: President Obama and another Diminished Moment

After the capture of the second Boston bombing suspect, President Obama gave a Friday-night speech to praise private citizens and law-enforcement officials. He called the bombers “terrorists” and said, “They failed because the people of Boston refused to be intimidated. They failed because, as Americans, we refused to be terrorized.”
Good, strong stuff — before he ruined it. Obama’s uplifting tone suddenly shifted into peevish scold as he warned against a rush to judgment “about the motivations of these individuals” or “entire groups of people.”
He continued: “One of the things that makes America the greatest nation on Earth . . . is that we welcome people from all around the world — people of every faith, every ethnicity, from every corner of the globe. So as we continue to learn more about why and how this tragedy happened, let’s make sure that we sustain that spirit.”
[...]
The scolding diminished a moment of national pride by suggesting that Islam played no role in the worst terror attack on American civilians since 9/11. Those who think Islam matters are regarded as bigots. Obama’s not fooling anybody except himself. The ties between terrorism and radical Islam won’t disappear because he refuses to see them....

Bosman, I can't get over what has happened, and the aftermath. Russia warned us multiple times, and said they suspected he met with terrorist groups. what the hell was he doing for six months!!

DUH!!! The man was screaming to be monitored. The incompetence of the DHS and the FBI is an outrage, yet today I get the feeling that they are saying, "oh well better luck next time, we'll have to work harder."

They screwed up, and now hundreds of people's lives will never be the same.

I know they can't stop every possible attack, and they have been successful in many cases, but the red flags were everywhere. Plus, why didn't they know within 2 HOURS that this was possibly their guy. How many people in Boston are on their watch list anyway?! Perhaps they could have saved the officer's life.

And don't even get me started on Mr. don't jump to conclusions. Hell no, we can't call an Islamic terrorist what he is. And we can't have any enemy combatants because that would mean we are actually at war with radical Islam.

The suspect has named himself precisely as a radical jihadist, so that presents a little problem to Obama, but no worries. The MSM is on board, just as they are with Benghazi.

Radio talk show host Michael Savage has suggested that Obama did not want the names and photos of the bombing suspects released to the public immediately because it would trigger a manhunt by the Boston police that would prevent him from attending the interfaith memorial service for the victims of the attack, and thus deny him a tremendous photo-op.

Savage's theory is extremely cynical, but nonetheless, right on target, IMHO.
