McDonnell 2016?...Gov Bob McDonnell (R-VA) talks with Mitt Romney's finance chief

Even as Gov. Bob McDonnell remains mum about his political future, here's a hint he's exploring his options: Virginia's governor recently spoke with the man who oversaw financial matters for Mitt Romney's presidential campaigns.
A discussion between McDonnell and Spencer Zwick, Romney's finance chair in 2008 and 2012, occurred within the past two weeks, sources told The Virginian-Pilot.
Zwick worked for Romney when he was governor of Massachusetts and alongside last year's Republican presidential nominee when he was called on to help rescue the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Read the rest HERE.

The popular Gov. McDonnell can not run for a second term in Virginia because of their 1 term limit. He's going to have plenty of time on his hands between now and 2016 with one hell of a good record as Gov of VA in his resume.

As one who predicted in 2009 that the GOP nomination would come down to Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rudy Giuliani (2 out of 3's not bad), I'm predicting today that Bob McDonnell will run for the nomination in 2016. And, I would not make the mistake of underestimating his chances if he does decide to seek the nomination.

BTW, my prediction is not an endorsement. Way to early for anything like that.

Yes, he may well run. He does have a v.good record in VA, but how he himself translates in a GOP primary is open to prediction. Whilst he's clearly a stellar Gov, I think he hasn't got 'it' to propel himslef to the pole position, especially if stud-like candidates also run.
Any other early hunches who you think may also run?

It looks like the 2016 GOP presidential primaries will have no shortage of contenders - and pretenders - for the party's nomination: Rand Paul, Jim DeMint, Ted Cruz, Jim Jordan, Scott Walker, Nikki Haley, Michele Bachmann, Susana Martinez, Sarah Palin, Chris Christie, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum, Paul Ryan, Bobby Jindal, Bob McDonnell, John Kasich and John Thune, just to name a few of the more likely participants.

Who knows, perhaps Donald Trump and world-renowned neurosurgeon Ben Carson will throw their hats into the ring as well. I wouldn't be surprised if voters are begging them to run after another 4 years of career politicians like Obama, Reed, Pelosi, McConnell and Boehner driving our country into the ground.

RomneyMan,

Not really.

I think there are a few who many feel are running who may be making noise here and there because they're reading articles about themselves stating they may be running.

In the end, it comes down to your desire and not the media's or your fan's desires. I put Rubio, Ryan, and Christie in this group.

Rand Paul wants to run but he won't until he is sure that he has shaken his fathers image enough to actually have a chance. He's smart enough not to want to be the replacement fringe candidate.

I think Jeb Bush is still trying to make up his mind. Realistically, he's only really got 2 more shots.

Yes, I agree at least about Ryan. He's really a congress lifer and not really a presidential candidate. No knock on him, just the way he is. I also think him running is hot air. Christie I think may. Rubio not too sure. Bush, let us hope not.

McDonnell is a STUD

Give me a break. McDonnell allowed his state legislators to pass that vaginal ultrasound requirement for anyone seeking an abortion that just fit right into the Republican-anti-female meme.

Now he wants to be Prez. Good luck to him

The GOP has a boatload of strong presidential & vice-presidential candidates to choose from in 2016, should those candidates decide to run. Perhaps the deepest and most diverse GOP field ever.
