Another view as to why Mitt Romney lost

The United States of America was created as an independent nation whose founding ideal was the principle of individual rights. Freedom. Ayn Rand said that “freedom, in a political context, means freedom from government coercion.” America was the first moral government based on individual rights, the nation of the Enlightenment.
In this age of Obama, that ideal has been tossed aside for … “free stuff.”

Rabbi Steven Pruzansky of Congregation Bnai Yeshurun in Teaneck, N.J., recently wrote an analysis of the 2012 presidential election that is the best thing I have read on Romney’s election loss and the broader question of the loss of America.
“It is a different world,” wrote Pruzansky, “and a different America. Obama is part of that different America, knows it, and knows how to tap into it. That is why he won.” What kind of different America? Pruzansky’s explanation is devastating: “Romney lost,” he writes, “because the conservative virtues – the traditional American virtues – of liberty, hard work, free enterprise, private initiative and aspirations to moral greatness – no longer inspire or animate a majority of the electorate. The notion of the ‘Reagan Democrat’ is one cliché that should be permanently retired. Ronald Reagan himself could not win an election in today’s America. The simplest reason why Romney lost was because it is impossible to compete against free stuff.”

Indeed, it is impossible to compete against free stuff... unless you can change the hearts of the people. And that's where we're at as a country. The only thing we can do as citizens is preach freedom, responsibility, and personal - not governmental - compassion for our neighbors. Too bad so many of us are uncomfortable preaching.

Bosman, That is the best explanation as to why Romney lost. It's depressingly true. America is lost for the time being. I hope not forever.

Yes, this is why some "americans" voted obama. Very sick.

I don't agree this is why obama was "re-elected," though. This is why some voted for obama. There is the fraud, proven when obama tossed military voting into the ocean. The fact is the fraud wouldn't have worked if more Americans were literate and the media had informed them about the truth. I've actually been told there was no choice, no difference between the candidates. Media is foreign owned.

No .. the rent seeking rich getting richer and scamming the last bit of "unearned" income from the 98% is why Romney lost. The old white men in Washington enriching themselves while their child-free, single sisters who share the same parents are left to take care of their elderly parents with no benefits or pay. At the same time while these white men enrich themselves on the "backs" of their sisters they are impoverishing their sisters by exploiting them for "free" elderly care ....is why Romney lost.

FYI..

I was a lifelong republican until now.

Anon at 2:43 pm. Right, you were a life long Republican like I own shorefront property in Florida I can sell you really cheap. Smacks of bitterness, much. What an unhappy life you must lead being a victim all the time.

Romney lost becausof free stuff, as well as lack of fair press coverage. Even the fiscal cliff negotiations have been tainted by bias. The Dems avoided accountability by not passing budgets even when they had super majorities and the WH. There is no excuse for their reckless and wonton behavior. Unfortunately, Obama's rare press conferences are more about how his daughters are than anything else. The Repubs in the house have been the only ones trying to pass a budget. The press does not bother to inform the voters of that, nor would they talk about it before the election. When they mentioned Benghazi at all, it was to blame Romney for something. I bet some really low info voters honestly think Romney had something to do with it.
