On Monday (October 1) fines began for hospitals who readmit Medicare patients within 30 days

So much for the reoccurring medical needs for the elderly people in your life who's medical needs may require their readmittance to a hospital. NOT SO FAST.

Starting Monday, Medicare will fine hospitals that readmit too many patients.
About two-thirds of the hospitals serving Medicare patients, or some 2,200 facilities, will be hit with penalties averaging around $125,000 per facility this coming year, according to government estimates.
Maybe your mom, dad, or grandparent will be lucky if they get sick again within the 30 day time frame. Perhaps their particular hospital's administrator will determine that their hospital hadn't re-admitted too many that month and mom or dad will get the ok to be re-admitted.

But what if the hospital determines they could face a fine? Too many readmits this month. Will it be take a couple of aspirin and call us in a month?
