True Colors

Pettiness has found it's face. If Santorum can't be the nominee he would rather have Obama for POTUS.
Rick Santorum has shown his true colors today and they are democrat BLUE. It has been generally accepted that former Governor Mitt Romney will more than likely become the GOP nominee for president and that Senator Santorum will have to consider winding down his campaign at some point before the convention in Tampa. The question that all republicans had wasn't necessarily when he would exit but how he would exit. Today the former Senator has revealed his hand and it is narcissistic, spiteful, vindictive, petty, and egomaniacal. CNN reported, "he (Santorum) continued, suggesting re-electing President Obama might carry less risk than if Romney wins the presidency...
To actually come out for Obama over another republican is out right treachery. He is well on his way to making himself the Benedict Arnold of the republican party and could affect the November election if he continues to play the role of a spoiler as he has done today. Romney responded with a written statement,
It has been said that past is prologue. Santorum's inability to temper his emotions and his rhetoric against his republican rivals is a reminder that when he looses he looses big. If republicans agree about any one issue it is that President Obama must go and Santorum's tacit endorsement of Obama over Mitt Romney gives us a clear view of Rick Santorum's true colors. This desperate attack is a new low in this already ugly GOP primary. The antics of Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich are driving voters out of the GOP tent and into the arms of Santorum's preferred presidential nominee... President Barack Obama. And this from someone who supported and enthusiastically endorsed Mitt Romney just four years ago. Talk about an etch-a-sketch man.

Santorum is more than happy to take one for his inside Washington team but when it comes to doing what is best for the nation he's a spoiler.

What an uncharactered, unprincipled man. What a shame. He has all of those children that need to see a man of integrity and honesty in their father.

Unfortunately I think those children are seeing an immature adult. If is was not so infuriating it would be simply sad.

He might as well be on Obama's payroll.

On THE BRIGHT SIDE, he's wasting most of his savings on this race to NOWHERE. Hopefully after the dust settles and Romney's in the WH, that's where Rick will find himself and any future in politics

When he loses he loses big, REAL BIG! What a bad Republican.

Publius Nemo, your post says it all and says it very well. Thank you for putting this together so quickly.

Let me propose an alternative to the “Benedict Arnold” comparison. I truly understand your point. But, after all, Arnold had been a military hero in the early years of the Revolution. For personal gain, he turned traitor, and that’s what we remember of him. However, I wouldn’t put Santorum in the league of the famous or even the infamous in American history.

Perhaps a better comparison would be the far lesser man whom Santorum endorsed for President in 1996 and Senate in 2004, Arlen Specter. During his final term in office (having defeated a conservative challenger with Santorum’s help), Specter turned coat and became a Democrat. Before he lost his re-election bid in 2010, Specter joined all other Democrats in voting for ObamaCare.

Thank you, Rick Santorum. On March 22, 2012, you proved yourself worthy of your mentor, and you repeated his history. You turned coat and announced to America and the world that this country would be better off with four more years of the Democrat Barack Obama than with your fellow Republican Mitt Romney.

Benedict Arnold, Judas Iscariot, Marcus Junius Brutus, or Julius and Ethel Rosenberg would have done just as well as a comparison... the jist is the guy is a traitor and in this instance a traitor to his party.

Anon @ 12:50 pm, you give Santorum way too much stature by comparing him to the great traitors of history. He's a small-time Pennsylvania legislator, who doesn't belong on the national stage. He's only getting media attention because he's the last non-Romney standing who has won more than 2 states. Without the white Evangelical and rural vote, Santorum would be back at the bottom of the pile (where he was for so long), and the media would still be obsessing over the far more colorful Gingrich.

I agree with Greg. It is sad when children have a father who isn't an adult. Bosman shows Kool-aid savvy as always. And a consensus has evolved with which I agree. Santorum is not significant. He would be more comfortable with Arlen Specter in the Democrat Party though.
