Fehrnstrom Is Right

A Kinsley Gaffe is when a politician accidentally says something that is obviously true. Romney does this a lot. I mean a lot.

Let's review the most recent foot-in-mouth from Romney's own adviser.
HOST: Is there a concern that Santorum and Gingrich might force the governor to tack so far to the right it would hurt him with moderate voters in the general election?

FEHRNSTROM: Well, I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It’s almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all of over again.
Is there anything that Fehrnstrom said that wasn't completely obvious to anyone with a half of a brain? The very things that the Republican base finds appealing are the very things that everyone else finds repulsive. If Romney wants to win the general election, he will need to offend Conservative Inc. and disappoint the base. Let me give you an example of what I mean.

Apparently the Southern Baptists' Richard Land has suggested that Romney choose Gingrich as UN Ambassador, Santorum as Attorney General and John Bolton as Secretary of State. Land says this will get Romney some conservative love. It is difficult for me, as somebody who spends some time reading information from sources outside of the conservative media complex, to process that suggestion without barreling over with laughter. I would love to have been a fly on the wall. I am sure Romney's face was sympathetic-looking but he will not follow Land's advice because he doesn't want to get blown out in the general election.

Michael Cottle's entire piece on Gingrich is worth a read, but I think his comments on Newt can apply to all of the aforementioned clowns.
A cabinet post? Don’t bet on it. Outside conservative circles, Gingrich remains more toxic than a poison-dart frog... any whiff that Newt was being considered for a prominent appointment would risk sending independents and moderates stampeding toward Obama.

This is why Fehrnstrom is right. Romney has two different, opposing groups of people to whom he has to appeal: primary Republican voters and general election voters. Once he gets past the first, he will "restart all over again."

Anyone with the sense God gave lettuce knows that this man was saying that the general election is a new ball game. Everyone knows that.

That means that the media..both right and left are either stupid or dishonest.

Now we know that Gingrich and Santorum are desperate losers who will latch onto anything to help them, but conservative media knows better. They are being dishonest.

They can over look all manner of idiot remarks from Santorum, they will defend Rush Limbaugh even when he goes out of his way to get himself in trouble..but give Mitt Romney the benefit of the doubt? Never. They might complain about how mean the media is to Republicans, but this incident just goes to show that they are not one bit better than msnbc.

Romney campaign says Rick is Obama's MVP. I would add Newt and Rush, too.

If we could lock them in a closet for the next 7 months, we'd be doing all right.

And BTW, who in the heck made Land someone I should listen to anyway? I'm just real darn sick and tired of his 2 cents.

I would not be surprised if little Rickie and Newty were on the Obama payroll. They would sell out the GOP in a heartbeat if the price is right.

leighrow..maybe they are...after all Rick Santorum said he would rather see Obama win than another Republican..if the Republican is not him. Now that should be the kind of gaffe that gets a guy in trouble..but do the ABR morons and the media about that? Hell no.

Terrye-I completely agree! I wonder why Brett Baier or Carl Cameron haven't mentioned Santorum's major gaffe(if it was one-Santy probably meant it)!

leighrow: Well sooner or later people will hear. I did not see Special Report today, but someone I know did and she said that Carl Cameron said that Santorum might be able to get the VP slot with Obama. Funny. ha ha

I don't wonder why; 78% of media running a campaign against romney. Sadly, media are able to be stupid as well as dishonest.
