BOGUS Santorum's Back Handed Retraction

Rick Santorum
Chirp Chirp Chirp...
Yesterday the Republican party was shocked and appalled by Rick Santorum's suggestion that we stick with President Obama if Mitt Romney becomes the nominee. CNN reported, "he (Santorum) continued, suggesting re-electing President Obama might carry less risk than if Romney wins the presidency...
"if we are going to be a little different, we may as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk in what may be the etch-a-sketch candidate for the future."
After scathing rebukes from his own party Rick Santorum issued a statement today but decided, to the shock of everyone, to double down on the attack by offering a backhanded retraction.
He said a lot of bogus things so let's break down just a few of them:
  • Santorum claims he would never vote for Obama over any Republican and to suggest otherwise is "preposterous". Of course it was only yesterday that Santorum said, "we might as well stay with what we have". That is in fact Santorum's own "preposterous" suggestion. We didn't imagine it and the Romney Campaign didn't make it up. It's actually on video. And let's not forget he endorsed Arlen Specter. BOGUS!
  • Santorum claims that this is an attempt of the Romney campaign to distort and distract. Again, it's HIS comment. To add insult to injury Santorum is taking a bad comment of a Romney aide out of context and totting around a child's toy as a prop. Talk about distracting voters and the media. BOGUS!
  • Romney mirrors Obama policies? One word for that... BOGUS!
  • Santorum says there is a huge enthusiasm gap around Mitt Romney. If Romney has an enthusiasm gap (I don't agree with that premiss) and Romney has 4,070,110 votes to Santorum's 2,758,186 and more delegates than all the other candidates combined, how should we classify the Rick Santorum enthusiasm gap? A Brobdingnagian enthusiasm gap. BOGUS!
  • Santorum claims that Mitt Romney is Obama-Lite. As an economic liteweight Santorum has much more in common with Obama than Romney. Santorum and Obama both love spending our money and they have no idea how to get us more. BOGUS!
  • Santorum claims that this election isn't about Obama, Romney, or himself but about freedom. If he truly believed that he would not have offered this disingenuous retraction and he would look to untie Republicans instead of endorsing the President. BOGUS!
You know you're on the wrong track when Newt Gingrich thinks your attack against Mitt Romney have crossed the line. Even Gingrich found himself surprised and taken back by Santorum's statement and that should let Santorum know it's time to throw in the towel. We are tired of his narcissistic campaign, his egomaniacal ambition, and his bald-faced lies. Simply put, Santorum is BOGUS!

A couple of months ago I thought Rick Santorum was a decent guy, just not ready for the job of POTUS, compared to Mitt Romney. My opinion of him has declined - at first gradually, but now it is in free fall. Now I am struggling to decide who is worse, Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich. I can't believe that Ron Paul has become my #2 choice.

Couldn't agree more. The principled candidates are Romney and Paul. They don't cross lines that shouldn't be crossed. They don't endorse Obama!

Bravo, Publius Nemo! A splendid overview of an increasingly unhinged Santorum. In self-righteous outrage (spare me), he could barely spit out his phony refutation of yesterday’s statement on Cavuto today. Wouldn’t even acknowledge the plain meaning of his own words. There was no misunderstanding, no misrepresentation. Santorum is just another politico-liar caught in his own web. It happens all the time with him. He’s just lousy at pulling it off.

BTW, I’ll match your “Brobdingnagian enthusiasm gap” with another reference to Swift’s “Gulliver’s Travels.” Santorum is the GOP’s “Lilliputian” candidate: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/lilliputian

Santorum's foot must be really tasty, he keeps shoving it in further. "It's all Romney's fault!!"
