NYT: Romney Bused In College Students To Boost CPAC Straw Poll Showing

First of all, I don't really care about the CPAC Straw Poll results. If it was relevant, Ron Paul would have been considered the GOP front runner over the past two years, and Mitt Romney would have won the nomination in 2008. It's good for a small amount of buzz for a day or two, but that's about it. I suspect most voters don't even know what CPAC is, and those who are familiar with the annual conservative conference know how the straw poll is won.

According to the New York Times Caucus Blog, the Romney campaign bused students in from colleges on the Eastern Seaboard to ensure that he had enough supporters there to enable his victory in the straw poll.
...Straw polls indicate very little. The voting pool is affected by who attends the conference — 44 percent of voters were students — and by special efforts campaigns can make to bring in supporters for the vote. In each of the last two years, Mr. Paul was the victor, but others said this was more a mark of his campaign’s organizational ability than its true support...

....The Romney campaign also worked aggressively behind the scenes for a strong showing, including busing students from colleges along the Eastern Seaboard to show their support....
Do I care? Not really. This is all well within the rules of the game, but let's not pretend that this is some "severely" impressive display of the strength of Mitt Romney with conservatives.

WAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Poor little Ricky... he just can't catch a break, LOL!

Everything that happens to Ricky is unfair, don't mind his years-long career on Fox to push his eventual candidacy, and how the whole network is covering for him.

As far as I'm concerned, Mitt can bus in as many people as he wants, and it still doesn't make up for the anti-Romney institutional bias in the news media.

How did Mitt steal the National vote too?

This story sounds like a STORY

Poor Ricky, couldn't get his busloads of felons into CPAC.

This isn't as troubling as Rick busing in patients from the asylums for the MN and CO caucuses.

The NYT??? Really??

Does Rick not understand how these things work? I mean why didn't he just bring in some of his union goon friends to vote for him?

BTW, at least Mitt Romney did not take advantage of a state subsidized program in one district to help pay for the education of his kids in another district. That is pretty much what Rick Santorum did.

BTW, Rick came in second...did he bus his people in too?

How cheesy were those buttons he made his family wear.

Shameless.

Another fake, phoney, psuedo-pious charlatan.

QUESTION: How will Rick deal with Obama's Chicago-style political election machine?

ANSWER: Not to worry, Rick will never get the chance.

Why is Rick "The Cry Baby" home and spend the weekend with his sick kid?

the others took the weekend off including Romney.

You'd think this A55hole won Maine & CPAC.

Where's little Ricky's tax returns.....or is he special????

For those who may be checking out the site for the first time...the nasty, childish comments you see are not from Democrats. They're from supporters of Mitt Romney. Seriously.

Once again, WRN shows his quality, LOL.

You can always tell a liberal ringer by his/her desire to stifle free speech when hearing something disagreeable. See RW at 9:35 pm.

Thanks Right Wingut, keep pointing that out for us newbies. It's another dose of reality about how the Romney camp works. I'm kinda creeped out by it all.

"and it still doesn't make up for the anti-Romney institutional bias in the news media." Waaaaaa, the media hates Mr. Romney. C'mon, they hate other Republican more.

"the nasty, childish comments you see are not from Democrats. They're from supporters of Mitt Romney. Seriously." Haha, they are one and the same.

anon at xx:55,

This is nothing. It gets worse. Much worse....take a gander at the comments that were directed at Sarah Palin by the Romney supporters earlier today.

I don't know what the truth about this is. Coming from the NYTimes does not reassure me of its accuracy. The fact that it is posted on RedState does not surprise me.

Did you see that David French, Iraq vet and blogger from Evangelicals for Mitt was awarded a presitgious CPAC award? He and Nancy, his wife are great supporters of Mitt and real conservatives. David is also the Senior Counsel for the American Center for Law and Justice. There are some legitimate CPAC straw poll votes for you. If you don't know anything about David, you should read more of what he writes. He also makes legal sense of some of the challenges that Mitt faced in Massachusetts when the courts and MA law was involved.

Rick played far more dirty in Colorado from what I've heard. Those e-mails just hours before the caucuses were about as dishonest and bigoted as one can get...

Every candidate wants their people to show up.

By the way, Romney won both the CPAC present vote and the national vote, and he won the CPAC vote by more than a bus load, more than ten bus loads, actually!

Doug NYC GOP said...

Little pRicky is setting himself up BIG TIME. He is the gong negative against Romney right now with accusations of poll rigging and calling him desperate. Now Romney can go after him, even though crybaby will get free media at Fox to whine about it.

He always came accross as the snitching, ultr=goody two shoes we knew in school, who went screaming for his Mama when the tables are turned.

And RWN, the crack about those of us disgusted at the pettiness not being Democrats is really rich, considering the fact that a supposed conservative is using the NYT to go after another Republican.

I heard that in Colorada Santorum's people were lying and saying they would vote for Romney just to change their vote at the last minute..the idea being to give Romney's people the impression they had more votes than they actually did. It is not illegal or anything, but it is not particularly ethical either.

Do I know this for sure? No, but than the ABR people have no problem going after Romney on the flimsiest of evidence for the silliest of reasons..so why not repeat it?

Teemu said...

CPAC had over 10k participants.

That ballroom had capacity of 4.2k people. If his speech was so great and he is suck a great conservative, why could he get only slightly over 1k people to bother to vote for him in the poll?

Santorum's strongest home state areas, areas west of Harrisburg, where he actually won even in 2006, are 2 - 2 h 30 minute drive away, Boston is almost 9 hours away, Atlanta over 11 hours away. So if people of his home state wanted to participate, it would have been much more easier for them than other candidates.

Sanint Snotty is just ticked that all the folks HE bussed in, voted for Romney! Thanks for the ride, ricky!

vestboy Vestorum is a mean cry baby. Not just a cry baby, but one of type that is shown on movie The Bad Seed. Dangerous, emotionally unstable, and diabolical in his actions. He feels he's above reproach and it's written all over that smirk.

zoomzoomz said...

After reading Doug/NY it occurred to me who Santorum mirrors...it's Eddie Haskell on Leave it to Beaver. Gag me with a spoon.

Media bias for Romney? George Mason University media study from two weeks ago just proved that Rick got 50/50 news coverage. Romney got 75% negative and 25% favorable. The media does not want Romney, otherwise this would be a done-deal.
The negative exposure is all mainstream media; and Fox is going for the other guy, so far, along with the three talk-show geeks (Ruch, Laura, and Mark). So stop complaining about Mitt's positive media; its not supported by the facts.
