Rasmussen: Santorum Trails Obama By Four Nationally, Romney Trails By TEN

Romney is starting to look increasingly unelectable. His scorched earth campaign is really taking it's toll.

Obama: 46%
Santorum: 42%

Obama: 50%
Romney 40%

Survey of 1,500 likely voters was conducted February 7-9, 2012. The margin of error is +/- 3 percentage points.

You are full of good news today RW, I cannot believe it. I hear that Mr. Santorum also does well against Mr. Obama in Florida as well as Ohio. Yahooooo!

OJ, I thought you were a fiscal con? You support Rick? Ha ha. Better crack open the research. He's not your fiscal friend.

He's not a tea party friend either. I thought you were tea party??

RW. We'll let Rick have is week in the sun. People eventually come to their senses, as they did with Perry and Newt.

This a honeymoon/primary bump poll.

Besides no one is paying attention.

National polls don't mean squat till October 31.

Terrye said...

Give it time.

Ohio JOE said...

"He's not your fiscal friend." True, he is not nearly as fiscally Conservative as Mrs. Palin among a few other, but he certainly is not as liberal as you paint him, but more importantly, at least he is to the Right of both Mr. Gingrich and Mr. Romney.

"People eventually come to their senses, as they did with Perry and Newt." Haha, ah yes, Mr. Perry, Mr. Gingrich and Mr. Trump are all better than Mr. Santorum. Riiiiight.

Hey RWN and Ohio Joe explain this one.

According to this Rassmussen poll, St. Rick was ahead of Obama by one point last week.

After he has his big sweep, at the height of positivity, he now trails by 4.

Romney's drop we understand.

He's being pummelled by the DNC, GOP rivals, the Left Wing Media and Talk Radio TRruth Twisters.

What's St. Rick's excuse

We're waiting....

Ohio JOE said...

"Romney's drop we understand." Really? I did not realize his two gaffes of the week were that bad. Perhaps they were.

"TRruth Twisters" Now that is a good one.

Terrye said...

It is one poll in a long list of polls and once most people find out how extreme Santorum can be on certain issues this number might change.

Meanwhile, Romney is still doing very well in a lot of other polls.

I realize that the true conservatives can not wait to get a guy in there who is soft on illegal immigration, pro union, pro earmarks, pro big government and hard on women in the military and working women as well as gays..but a lot of these views have limited appeal to the general population.

Terrye said...

Ohio Joe:

What gaffes? I hear he gave a really good speech at C-Pac and was received very well..

I think that Santorum has a bump from winning..all of them for awhile..it is maintaining it that is the trick. I just do not think that Rick's numbers have settled yet. This has been a really roller coaster primary season thus far.

RW, the tide is turning now. Look for me at TRS as B_Goldwater. I will have my choice comments as always. ;)

Nah, it is merely MSM and "useful idiots" on the Right - unholy alliance that is hurting his numbers, but Rick Santorum will go down easily in general election.

By the way isn't it interesting how Perry, Gingrich and Santorum all "converted" to abortion only to save mother's life, no rape or incest exceptions just for 2012 campaign and IA caucus

No abortion in case of rape and incest, and talks of taking away SS benefits from people already retired or almost retired alone are enough for MSM to blow up Santorum's campaign in the general election.

Then serial spitting out gaffes that can be seen as racist isn't going to help either. Santorum is real offensive gaffe machine, but MSM just concentrates on Romney for now, for obvious reasons.

Ohio JOE said...

"What gaffes?" Minimum wage and the "poor" they may be minor gaffes, but they were gaffes nevertheless.

"Then serial spitting out gaffes that can be seen as racist" Oh please, not the Generalismo card again.

Right Wingnut said...

Doug, for starters, Obama's approval rating is at 51% in this poll. Santorum holding him at 46% is rather impressive.

RWN:

The poor comment was not half as bad as Santorum's man on dogs and his bizaree attitude toward women..and it is nice to see all these pretend conservatives doing the class warfare thing.I knew you guys did not mean half of that stuff about capitalism etc.

Terrye said...

RWN:

And one of the reasons Obama is up there is that this primary is making the Reopublicans look a freak show.

And as for Santorum being up there in a Rasmussen...not all that long ago Rasmussen had Cain beating Obama and we know how that turned out.

I realize that Santorum has the evangelical and the hypocrite vote sewed up..but it remains to be seen if he can keep this up, especially if he can not even get himself on the ballot in several states.

Publius Nemo said...

You attribute Newt Gingrich's scorched earth campaign to Mitt Romney. It was Newt that carried the democrats hard line against free markets and capitalism and his lack of cordiality that scorched the campaign. Luckily it was early enough for us to salvage and if Santorum ends up with the nomination everyone here will vote for him. Let's not pin blame on Mitt when we all know it was Newt. We should be thanking Mitt for taking Newt to task even if Rick comes out the winner. But that is yet to be decided and I imagine Mitt will regain his lead again. He's a turnaround guy and that is what the economy needs...a big turnaround.

"Let's not pin blame on Mitt when we all know it was Newt." Both are to blame.

Publius Nemo said...

Ohio Joe-Show me where Mitt was not cordial or respectful to his opponents and we can concede they are both to blame. Defending oneself does not have to play into the democrats hands. Newt definitely is to blame.

Right Wingnut said...

Link please, for the Rasmussen poll showing Cain beating Obama.....

Publius Nemo said...

But it's a minute point in the big scheme of things so let's talk about beating Barrack Obama and the democrats. Love the enthusiasm.

Ohio JOE said...

Well strictly speaking you can argue that Mr. Romney was both cordial and respectful, but that is not the issue per se. When your PACs go around telling half truths about your opponent, you should not be shocked when the other candidates fight back.

Terrye said...

Ohio Joe...what half truths? Super Pacs do their own thing and when Gingrich's Super Pac was lying about Romney I did not notice any outrage on the far right.

BTW, if Santorum is such a stand up conservative, why weren't all the self ordained leaders of talk radio etc supporting him 6 months ago? It is not as if they did not know who he was.

He is just the last guy standing who is not Ron Paul or Mitt Romney..if he was Ted Bundy my guess is Mark Levin would be telling us what a true conservative good old Ted was.

RWN:

I just googled Poll Herman Cain beating Obama..go do that and see what comes up.

Ohio JOE said...

"and when Gingrich's Super Pac was lying about Romney I did not notice any outrage on the far right." Mr. Limbaugh attacked Mr. Gingrich as well as Mr. Romney for their negative ads.

Terrye said...

Limbaugh also lied his ass off about Romney on immigration and pro life..so it kind of negates the effort...

So does this mean that Obama was right on Citizens United?

I mean all of a sudden money in politics is apparently an awful and horrid thing.

The truth is Santorum is a crappy candidate who stands no chance of winning once people become more familiar with him and his ideas..the fact that he gets his moment in the sun does not change the fact that he has some really serious problems in terms of electability.

BTW, while we are on the subject of bad rich people etc..as a working woman I resent Santorum's comments in his book about how women went to work outside the home and left their children because they bought into the whole feminist idea blah blah blah

Most women work outside the home because they need the money. Unlike Rick's wife we are not married to a man who became a millionaire sucking off of government.

Publius Nemo said...

Ohio JOE - Strictly speaking the PACs are a different problem but at any rate they all have them and they all spin the facts. The scorch comes from personal effronteries and discourteous behavior from the candidates. Newt went toxic and some toxicity got on Mitt's shoes as he stepped over him. I think there is time to recover and win the nomination but time will tell. I just want lower taxes and a better economy. I think you're a credit to your candidate of choice. Peace and Plenty, PN

I would like one person to please provide evidence from Mitt's campaign of scorched earth. I just didn't see it.

Sure, Romney has more money to spend, because he worked his ass off fundraising, and can buy more air time. That's nothing to criticize. We should be wondering why the others are too inept at fundraising and being able to actually get on the ballots in each state.

Great News...they deserve the low ratings. Fox News and the right wing radio pundits are underestimating the number of Mit Romney supporters who are getting fed up with their slanted anti-Romney garbage.

Fox,Rush and Levin have been exposed for their hypocrisy during this GOP primary process.

If CNN plays their cards right they could take over Fox's number one position.

Moreover, how about if we tell it like it is?
Santorum, who claims to be this big Moral conservative, has been lying---yes lying--about Mitt.
Not some political action committee; but from Rick's own mouth:
Saying Romney is the same as Obama on three key issues is a complete lie.

Leighrow:

Well, it seems that Fox has given up on Newt and is now shilling for their new heart throb Santorum.

They said that he was the only one people were excited about at CPAC etc.

I watched Romney on C-Span and he got several standing ovations. People were more than "polite" I guess I can either believe Fox or my lying eyes.

I used to watch Fox every day..but I will never trust them again.

Terrye said...

Fox has a new poll out today...according to this poll Romney still does better than anyone else against Obama..whose numbers are up..this primary has been better for him than it has been for any of the Republicans.

According to Fox..it is Obama 47 to 42 Romney...Obama 50 to 38 Santorum.

Terrye,

The big take away by FOX NEWS,Rush Limbaugh, Erick Erickson on CNN from Romney's speech was "severely" conservative governor.

All of the media is abuzz with this "one" word in his speech verses the actual content of the speech.

Romney's speech was great and I have heard that many people thought Santorum's whining throughout his speech regarding Romney was pathetic and weak.

Santorum received his standing ovation at the beginning of his speech, but the enthusiasm was drained from the room when he spent a significant portion of his speech bashing Romney.

I also thought it was weird that his family was up on stage with him as he spoke...talk about props!

Romney's speech was solid and was received well by the audience.

Ohio JOE said...

"I think you're a credit to your candidate of choice. Peace and Plenty, PN" Haha, thank, but my candidate of choice is not my first choice, but hey. Anyway, Mr. Nemo, it is good that your candidate has you in his camp. It would be better if he had Door #1 type people like you, Noelle, AZ and Gordon. All leaders need good Conservative advisers.
