The "Lion's Den"

Today, I'd like to point out the loss of freedom & liberty in the United States. As Ronald Reagan reminded us, "We the People" are in charge of the Government; the Government serves us, not the other way around. Let's look back to his famous characterization of "We the People." There is nothing new under the sun today that has not been a problem in an earlier era. People change, but people's motives & agendas never do. As President Reagan said, "as government expands, liberty contracts." He was a true conservative in his words & deeds. May our current leaders & Presidential candidates aspire to follow in his footsteps to liberty & justice for all and to preserve our personal & religious liberties no matter the costs. Honoring these principles will be the greatest respect we can show to President Reagan as Conservatives.

Much has been said here the last couple of days re Gov. Romney's religious faith. It seems to elicit very sharp responses from regulars & trolls to the site. We are all fighting for freedom & religious liberty as it is another Conservative value.  Accusations of bias or bigotry are being floated around as if it were a campaign issue.  Gov. Romney finds no need to address this, so perhaps we can agree to fight for the right of religious freedom without injecting the negative side of the issue here. The trolls love it when the fur starts to fly. Please don't feed them.

My Dear Troglodyte,

Governor Romney addressed the issues of religious freedom and anti-religious bigotry in a widely praised address at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library on December 6, 2007. Surely you are aware of this? But, if not, the following is provided for your edification:

Transcript: Mitt Romney's "Faith in America" Speech
December 6, 2007

The following is a transcript (as prepared for delivery) of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's speech "Faith in America," delivered Thursday at the George Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas. Romney discussed his views on religious liberty, religious tolerance and how faith would inform his presidency. The speech begins with Romney addressing former President George H.W. Bush, who introduced the former governor.

Lionhead,

Unfortunately, many of the "bigot" baiters are RS regulars. I still consider them trolls, though...particularly Firecracker. He has a history of this behavior on this site and another one. Sadly, many decent RS commenters (and a few front page contributers) hopped on the bandwagon yesterday when he accused the Santorum campaign of something for which he had zero evidence. I assume this makes them feel better about Romney's bad week. Accusing someone of bigotry without just cause is as reprehensible as bigotry itself.

I am confused to your comment regarding Romney refusing to address this issue. Romney wrote an OP-ED in the Washington Examiner discussing this very issue this past week.

Romney was fighting this fight when he was governor of MA.. He became very unpopular with the liberals in the state of MA due to his stand on religious freedom. Romney has mentioned the Obama administrations policies that are usurping our first amendment rights of religious freedom as highlighted by the whitehouse's contraception rule and the Catholic Church in several of his stump speeches.

You may not have heard about it if you listen to FOX news and other MSM sources. The OP-ED was highlighted at Rightspeak. FOX has only been highlighting Santorum and Gingrich speaking out about this issue.

In case you haven't figured it out,old Murdoch who owns FOX,the Wall street Journal and the Weekly standard is trying to buy a politician. He knows Romney can't be bought so he has been promoting the two former FOX contributors,Gingrich and Santorum.
If you are familiar with politics in the UK,you would know that old Murdoch loves using his media outlets to influence elections.
