South Carolina, Don’t Give Up Your Record without a Fight!

South Carolina, you are rightly proud of your 30-plus-year record of picking the Republican Party’s nominee for president. All that may change, however, if Newt Gingrich “wins” the First-in-the-South Primary on 1/21/12.

Palmetto Patriots, be forewarned! You are on the brink of losing your hard-earned record.

Gingrich cannot and will not win the GOP nomination in 2012. Everyone knows this—and so do you. Instead, we are watching a con game, and South Carolina’s record of “Picking Presidents” is the first targeted victim.
  • Don’t be deceived by snapshot polls and mainstream media hype. They’re siren songs to lure you to the rocks of despair and destruction. If you follow that false, alluring voice, you won’t recover your premier status for many elections to come.
  • Don’t surrender to right-wing cynics who want to stick it to the Republican “establishment” at your expense. They care nothing about your stellar record as a president-maker. They’re content to see South Carolina left in the dust, as they move on to the bigger money markets in Florida and beyond.
  • Don’t let the mainstream media characterize you as bigots, who would never vote for a Mormon. They’re laughing at you behind your back. They can’t wait to write your epitaph for religious and racial bigotry. Gingrich’s confrontation with the black journalist/writer Juan Williams on 1/16/12 set the stage for a media-driven reenactment of Fort Sumter. Get ready. If Gingrich wins, that’s the narrative you’ll be stuck with for years to come.
  • Be shrewd, calm, and deliberative. There is only one candidate in the race who can win the GOP nomination and defeat Barack Obama. That is Mitt Romney. Vote for him, and you (1) preserve your record of picking the GOP nominee, (2) lead the Republican Party in the South and beyond, and (3) secure the GOP’s best chance to defeat Obama in November 2012. The nation will thank you—especially those of us in the March/April primary states who have never experienced the kind of outsized influence you wield.

South Carolinians, it’s not too late to preserve your incomparable record of picking presidents. But you must act TODAY, January 21, 2012.

Romney alone has the talent, drive, organization, and resources to defeat President Obama in 2012. Romney alone has successful executive experience in the public and private sectors of our economy. His opponents lack any meaningful executive experience. They may be great legislators (Santorum), libertarians (Paul), or idea guys (Gingrich). But they have never run anything other than their own political campaigns. Gingrich, in particular, is a demonstrable disaster-in-waiting as an executive, having been ousted from the House leadership by his own party.

Show us what you’re made of, South Carolina, and make Romney president.

It is ironic that Gingrich is considered the "non-establishment" candidate. The guy went to Washington and never left. Romney has never BEEN in Washington. Sad to see.
