Is Gingirch A Historian?

Myra McPherson thinks not. I agree. And it is time to settle this because I am sick of hearing people make Newt out to be some kind of intellectual. Newt Gingrich failed to get tenure at West Georgia College, mainly because he had little interest in doing the work of a historian. To date he has yet to produce one scholarly, peer-reviewed work on a historical subject. Getting a PhD in history does not make one a historian anymore than getting a law degree makes one a lawyer. Mitt Romney graduated at the top of his class from the world's best law school and yet I have never heard anyone refer to him as a lawyer. That's because he isn't. And neither is Newt a historian.

For the record, I got a degree in history myself, and I'm not a historian either.

Only the naysayers refer to Mitt as a lawyer. Attempting to use it a a slur (I see it a lot in comment posts). But those who know, know that Mitt has the intellect to be a lawyer but became the turnaround guru instead. Life has made him what he is today - which just happens to be exactly what this country needs right now.

Heck, Noelle could probably do a lot of the work of a dentist, but she's not a dentist either.

Newt claiming that he is a historian is just more of his well-known pomposity, which is similar to his pronouncement that he will be the nominee. Sure, Gingrich has written books about the Revolutionary and Civil Wars (what need does Fannie and Freddie have for a historian anyway?), but as the post indicates, he has avoided the rigorous peer review process in academia. Gingrich's love of himself rivals Obama's love of himself. Do we really want to replace one narcissist with another?

BTW, Obama is a lawyer. He was the president of the Harvard Law Review, and yet his writings have not been made public. There must be a dead stinking rat hidden away in those writings, else he and his cohorts would be trumpeting his publishing acumen.
