Romney Thanks Ted Kennedy For Procuring Federal Support Of RomneyCare (Video)

Where has this video been? I don't believe I've run across it until now. The following quote illustrates why it wasn't necessary to raise taxes in Massachusetts to implement RomneyCare.
Together we pitched the secretaries on our vision to insure all our citizens, and on the need for federal support to make the vision real.
According to Reason.com, an expansion of Medicaid funding paid half of the program's budgeted cost.

Good post, because of the Breaking Nes scrawl on the bottom of the video. Governing a Democratic State is much akin to Governing the country.....and far removed from not governing at all

This is it! I'm sure this will be the time attacking Romney and MassHealth will work!

RW,

The background of MassCare is that there was a strong effort to implement universal coverage in Mass. It was narrowly defeated, but the writing was on the wall.

The other impetus for Romney to reform healthcare was that the Bush administration threatened to withhold medicaid funding if Mass didn't decrease indigent care costs. Something needed to be done.

The idea was to take those federal funds that were already flowing to Mass, and use them in a more effective way. Was there an expansion of Medicaid funding during Romney's tenure? I don't know the answer to that, but I believe the increases came after Romney was out.

The interesting thing about this "revelation" is that anyone who ad Romney's book should inherently know that this was a fully bipartisan effort. Romney was able to get everyone on board with the plan: the private insurers, the liberal legislature, the people of the state, conservative and liberal national politicians such as Kennedy and The Heritage Foundation and others.

This country is divided. The democrats thought we had a chance to all get behind Obama... Look how that divider in chief turned out. The difference is that Romney again has a proven track record of pulling disparate entities together in mutual agreement to get positive change.

Looks like they cut off Romney in his list of those to thank.

I am sure President Bush would have been one of those as he signed off on the federal money for the state.

"I don't know the answer to that, but I believe the increases came after Romney was out." Yes, the increase came after Mr. Romney left, but it did not take a degree in rocket sceince to see this coming.

This issue was talked about over the past few days on my own local radio station and it is a great example of why Conservatives are turning on Mr. Romney.

This will secure the Whitehouse for Romney in the General.

Ted Kennedy is a hero to the left.

Anyone of the right who cares about Romneycare is already a no vote for Romney.

This issue has run it's course.

I don't see what the big deal is about. Every state in the nation is receiving federal dollars going to hospitals to cover the uninsured. So Romney got permission from the feds to use these funds to purchase insurance for the poor. It's not as if they were getting more dollars then they were already had coming.

Romney better bone up on the federal dollars flowing to each state to cover the uninsured. I'm sure the attack will come from Perry to which he can reply, "yes Mr. Perry, and Texas receives 500 billion in federal subsidies to help cover the 25% uninsured in your state."

This issue is as dead as Kennedy.

To hear Deval Patrick tell it, he is the one responsible for the Mass health care plan as it exists today. He wants to take credit because the plan is popular in that state..among the people it actually effects.

So Romney thanked Ted Kennedy..I bet if I look hard enough I can find a video of Reagan thanking him for something too. The man was around forever.

The Mass plan was a bipartisan bill. Romney vetoed parts of it and those vetoes were over ridden, but in the end the bill was supported by Romney and the legislature and the people of the state.

So why would this make a difference?

Nobody addressed the fact that Kennedy helped Mitt get an expansion of Medicaid to pay for half of the program. Figures.................

Probably because it doesn't matter RW. Senators procure funding for state projects, that's kind of what they do.

Romney vetoed costly amendments and was over ridden on his vetos. Romney signed Romneycare in April 2006 and Romney left office in Jan 2007. I read the bill was not implemented until 2008 and more costly amendments were added after Romney left office.

Heritage lauded the bill in 2007 but retracted when they saw the monster that was created after ROmney left office.

The purpose of the bill was to address the 8% of the uninsured so the hospitals and the taxpayers weren't holding the bill due to a Federal government mandate. It was not a takeover of healthcare for the remaining 92%.

MA is primarily a liberal state, I read that 13% of the voting base is Republican so Romney is in a picture surrounded by liberals and thanks the MA Senator for securing Federal funds...so I am not seeing the big deal.

So the Conservatives want to kill states rights. The citizens were really pushing for this and MA was having problems funding the uninsured mandate from the Federal government so they created a solution. If they would have stuck with Romney's original solution and accommodated the governors vetos,I would bet that the bill would have been more cost effective.

Obamacare is nothing like Romneycare and I get more and more irritated when I listen to people making it a huge issue, when it is not.

If anything Romney really knows what should be done and what shouldn't be done. Romney most definitely does not believe in Universal Healthcare like Obamacare.

Old, moldy news from an angry pouter.

RW, there have been plenty of videos and interviews with Romney mentioning Kennedy's assistance.

Only you narrow, small minded ppurists, who beleive in the fallacy of 100% conservative rule, will think this is damaging.

Let's say you gal Palin ran and won, and she had a 55DEM/45 Rep senate and a narrow lead in the house.

Do you think she'd just be able to dictate what she wants done?

Don be so naive.

And stop pouting, it's beneath you.

OJ, I AM a conservative. Stop acting like a snob! I get tired of your continuing to infer that those of us who support Romney are NOT CONSERVATIVE! You need to stop being condescending just because we disagree on who to support!
