Rick Perry....Road Kill....and North Carolina

Nineteen years ago, at the 1992 Republican National Convention, a barbecue taste-off pitted beef tenderloin from Joe Allen's Bar-B-Que of Abilene, Texas, against pulled pork from Kings Restaurant in Kinston, N.C. Perry, then the agriculture commissioner of Texas, sampled the Carolina barbecue and declared, "I've had road kill that tasted better than that." (emphasis mine)
It seems that this quote by Perry has surfaced again and there are some in South Carolina that are a LITTLE upset:
The reaction in North Carolina was swift. Newspaper columnists declared Perry unfit for office and demanded a retraction. A representative of the Smithfield's Chicken N' Bar-B-Q chain mailed Perry 2 pounds of pork barbecue and an open letter encouraging him to "revisit your experience with Eastern North Carolina Bar-B-Q and … rectify your statement."

Wilbur King of Kings Restaurant even weighed in. "He has admitted to eating road kill and knowing what it tastes like," King told a local television reporter. "How can this person judge any food?"

So far, there has been no official response from the Perry campaign, and that doesn't bode well for his electoral prospects.
The rest of the story is HERE.

Perry and Texas may have had some fun teasing North Carolina, but Perry, if you're reading this, when you run for political office outside of your region, those kinds of statements can have some longer lasting consequences than you intended.

I hate Rick Perry but to be fair Central Texas BBQ is the best on earth.

By the way, why is everyone's state bird the Cardinal? Starting from the north west most state going east, then south: IL, IN, OH, KY, WV, VA, and NC.

TN wanted to have the cardinal as well, but got confused and chose the mockingbird.*

Also, isn't interesting that when Perry first got in the race, he sounded a lot like Mitt Romney? (He did, making the same points in his speeches that Romney had months before.) Oh, the state bird for TX? The mockingbird.

* That TN story is a joke. (laugh, haha... okay, I won't quite my day job, or my night job.)

Okay, also interesting. It seems most of those southern states are mockingbirds: AR, FL, MS, TN, TX.

Perry really looks hungry.

I think I see some fur on his lip.
