Perry Takes Aim At RomneyCare In New Ad: 'Romney's Remedy'

You all know I'm no Rick Perry fan, but I like this ad. I personally think Perry's camapign is on life support, but he has the resources to inflict serious damage to Romney's standing among conservatives with ads like this. Now, if we can just get him to articulate these points in a debate setting....

Perry dissing Romneycare.

Here's Perry's Health Care Solution compared to Romney's:

State with share of residents THAT HAVE health insurance:

Massachusetts 1st
Texas 50th

State with share of children THAT HAVE health insurance:

Massachusetts 1st
Texas 50th

Now WHO has the problem Rick, Texas or Massachusetts?

Oh, I almost forgot, Perry did have hopes of a kind of health care initiative in Texas. He was for, Bi-National Health Insurance With Mexico.

Totally irrelavent. All Europeans and Canadians have HI, but that does not mean they receive sufficient HC.

OJ, TX and MA stats on insurance are not irrelevant. Insurance reform is the issue. No one is suggesting government should deliver healthcare, except Obama.

If they did suggest such a thing as government healthcare, your point that governments in Europe do a poor job would be valid.

a fairly strong ad but its dated material, too bad its steeped in massive edit cuts, but it may be effective with the already not going to vote for romney crowd like jeffries and Steve deace, but we all know their real reason for hating romney :)

i hope that Romney camp does not take the bait on go after Perry. Mitt has reestablished the lead and this reeks of desperation move from Perry. The fact the RW posts it shows the crowd it will influence.

OJ,

I'm from Texas and the health care situation here sucks.

If you have an emergency and need to go to the hospitals there, prepare to wait several hours. Emergency rooms here are overrun with those who don't have insurance.

Who do you suppose pays for all that?

Johan "Mcon" said...

RW is another one in the "anyone but Romney" camp now I guess. Maybe you would like to articulate why your latest candidate is worth supporting. Or is there some sort of grudge that Mitt being a formidable opponent has kept the Artic Fox out of the race.

Arizona also has a lot of problems with emergency rooms. There is no doubt that some of it is compounded by those who are illegally here. Perry figures we lack compassion if we don't let them decide that they should be here, and then pay for their every need when they arrive. It is a weak policy; not popular with the vast majority of Americans; and dangerously expensive. Expect Perry's weakness on the border to hurt his support in Arizona.

I actually let myself be distracted. The mandate that I fear the most is that I must pay for everyone's health care when their situation has become so dire they cannot pay for it themselves. Private insurance is important, and Romney worked to preserve it in Massachusetts.

Health care is complex issue, and deserves to be treated as such. The only way to act completely conservatively is to do away with the mandate that requires hospitals and caregivers to provide services no matter what to anyone who needs them. Since most Americans balk at that one--including myself--we must find constitutionally sound means to insist that people who are able to purchase their own insurance do so, or to force them to be responsible for their own bills

I believe it is not constitutional to require everyone to pay for other's health care, especially when that person failed to provide for himself when it was possible. However, many Americans cannot understand the principles behind this.

This is a well done ad full of misdirection and statements taken out of context.

Perry's camp is being knowingly deceptive. I hope the general public will see through it.

Someone elsewhere said Romney could respond with something like,

"I have a team of audio and video experts who, given enough time, could put together something that would make Perry sound competent."

The Heritage Foundation and Jim DeMint originally supported the Mass plan...why doesn't anyone accuse them of flip flopping?

The ad LOOKS like a hack job..........and it IS a hack job!

Perry's integrity and desperation showing.

Rick Perry disgusts me. How embarrassing for anyone who supports this deceiver.

If anyone has researched Romney/care they would see that this ad is nothing but a pack of lies. I just saw the good reverend(more like the devil) Jeffries claim that Romney promoted abortions with this bill, which is another lie. So this is the type of person that all you evangelicals want sitting in the white house?

Whether you are for or against Romney, you should seek the truth and make sure the truth gets heard!

I would say most people have heard of RomneyCare, but most people really don't know what it is and are actually afraid of it. (They have heard of ObamneyCare.)

According to a recent report, most Republicans haven't even started thinking about the primaries.

"Perry's camp is being knowingly deceptive."

Yep. Pretty obviously too. Did you notice they again focused in on the line Mitt removed from his hardback edition when the paperback came out? The post gave him 3 Pinnocchios for his deception in that claim. And he's STILL using it.

@Machtyn-

I agree. The so called political analysts just mention Romneycare like it is the same as Obamacare and they don't even bother to mention that they are completely different. Amalysts make it appear that Romney endorsed all of the added costly amendments that the liberals added into the bill overriding Romney's vetos.

I do not know if the analysts are just inept or if their money is on another candidate. The majority of comments I read from bloggers believe Romney/Care and Obamacare are one in the same and they are using this bill to define Romney as Obama-lite.

Right Wingnut said...

leighrow,

Romney himself has acknowledged the many similarities on many occasions. Those snippets will make great campaign ads too.

Anonymous said...

RW,

Hey whatever trips your trigger. I personally think it is a dead issue becauese in the end he will repeal Obamacare. Any candidate with a brain knows that this bill has to be killed in order to take the burden off of business along with the Dodd/Frank bill.

HMMM-I wonder when ROmney will release Perry's proposal for a bi-national Healthcare plan between Texas and Mexico.

At Least Romney's plan was a state plan and addressed the 8% of the uninsured MA citizens, but heck your boy Perry wanted Texas to pickup Healthcare costs for Mexico!

Also why aren't the conservatives outraged by Cain's MANDATORY national sales tax with an income tax. If anyone has researched the origin and development of the income tax and the European VAT...this concept should be more alarming than Romney's STATE healthcare plan.

LOL! My boy Perry?

You haven't been reading this site for long, have you?

RW,

That is correct. I am relatively new to this site. I just assumed since all of your recent posts were anti-Romney and Perry positive that you were one of Perry's adoring fans.

Leighrow,

RW is no Perry fan, BUT he is so anti-Romney he is hoping he crashes and burns, so he can ressurect his dream of Sarah Palin riding in save America in 2016.

Ergo all the gleefuyl references to future Romney campaign ads, sitting this one out, etc.

To see such "If I can't play, you can't play either!!!!" behavior on display is disheartening. But it does bring to reality what many of us thought of many members of the Palin camp. They are not adult enough to be engaged in politics.

So have fun throwing these little pebbles at the Romney Train from the side of the road. We still have a seat on board for you when you are ready to stop sulking.

I've said it a thousand times and I assume I'll say it a thousand more before this political season is over:

Romney will win the campaign for us, even if he has to drag our party kicking and screaming over the finish line.

Right Wingnut said...

Doug,

You're putting words in my mouth. I never said anything about sitting out, or hoping Romney loses to Obama.

In fact, I'm now having second thoughts about my conclusion that Romney has the nomination wrapped up. He still struggling to break 20% in the polls. I'm not sure how he'll break 25%, which is approximately the support he garnered in 2008. As hapless as Perry is, he has a chance to regain the top spot with an adequate debate performance.

Right Wingnut said...

leighrow,

I can't stand Perry. I stated in this post that I'm no fan of Perry.

"I personally think it is a dead issue" Unfortunately, the dead people are going to be those who do not get health care due to Free Market distortions. You guys should try to put yourself in the shoes of somebody who is really sick and live in a Socialist or Quasi-Socialist country. Then you might realize how serious these market distortions are.

"Ergo all the gleefuyl references to future Romney campaign ads, sitting this one out, etc." I can only speak for myself Doug, but I for one will go to the polls in 2012. Whether I vote GOP or Third party is a question that remains unanswered. I take no glee in the fact that the party is moving to the Left. In fact it makes me slightly sick. If we do not embrace extreme Right-Wing capitalism, there will be no glee for anybody.

Anonymous said...

RW,

Did you just flip flop on your conclusion that Romney has the nomination wrapped up? Oh-oh

Ohio Joe,

I am a Healthcare consultant so I am extremely nervous about a socialist healthcare plan. What hppens in these type of systems is that the rich aren't affected because they will be able to afford the private healthcare system, whereas the average and poorer person will have pray that "a quality of life index" is in their favor in order to get procedures covered under a government plan. This is Obama's plan. As a matter of fact on Friday the Obama administration is writing up what will be covered under the government plan.

I live in MN and I am a huge supporter of Michele Bachmann and I did not hesitate to take a vocal stand supporting palin and Bachmann when the media was trashing and marginalizing them as legitimate contenders. Unfortunately she has no chance of winning and if Romney does win, I would love to see Romney place her in his cabinet as Health and Human Services Secretary.

I like Romney because he understands the healthcare mess becuase he had first hand experience and knowledge navigating the U.S. Healthcare system in MA. He completely gets the pitfalls of government's influence on healthcare. Romney saw firsthand the catastrophic results such as soaring costs when liberals get control of healthcare legislation.

That is why Romney wants the private sector and free market to maintain control of healthcare. His push to allow insurance companies to compete across state lines would be a huge plus to drive down insurance rates. Let the Insurance companies compete for the consumer's business. Let the consumer dictate how their money will be used and let the doctors have control over their patient's care.

Health care is a complicated issue, no doubt. Many Americans will like the fact that Romney has worked with issues in health care before. I don't believe that MASS care will be a complete negative for Romney in the general election.

That being said, the States have a pretty strong stranglehold on insurance regulation, which is also part of the reason health insurance costs so much. Anyone who is serious about reforming health care will have to look at ways to reduce State regulation on health insurance. That will be a very difficult battle, but one that has been required for a very long time.

I completely agree with you on cracking the state regulation of healthcare is going to be a difficult nut to crack but it would be worth the fight. Conservatives like Paul Ryan,Gingich,Bachman,Canter etc.. are all for pushing legislation that will allow insurance companies to compete across state lines. If the Republicans can win the presidency and regain the senate this could become a reality.
