Sarah Palin's Speech At Iowa Tea Party Rally (Video - 9/3/2011)

The so called "experts" will be dissecting this speech for days. She stressed the importance of nominating the right candidate in the upcoming GOP primary battle to solve the nation's problems, she laid out her five-point plan to get the economy back on track, she attacked crony capitalism - in both parties (a veiled shot at Rick Perry?), and more.

No, she did not announce her candidacy for President of the United States. However, this was not the speech she would have given is she intends on being a "cheerleader."

As much as I'd like to believe it, Palin's references to crony capitalism and "pay to play" are not about Rick Perry.

They are about this:

Palin is going to endorse Rick Perry. I wish I were wrong. Really.

Mass Con,

Then you clearly didn't listen to the speech.

Great speech.

MassCon, if you don't think she was referring to Perry...then you didn't watch the speech. She didn't call him out by name but she didn't call out McCain by name either when she reprimanded him for referring to the Tea Party as trolls.

Maybe she will announce her run for the Presidency in South Korea? She did say when she announces...the world will know about it.

Glad someone who writes for her was listening to Romney's speeches. She ripped enough of it off, and tossed in her Palinisms for good measure.

Ain't nothing like the Real thing - ROMNEY!

It was the largest crowd in Iowa this political season...projections between 2 and 5 thousand...she's not even a candidate and she manages to hold the biggest rally in Iowa this primary season.

Ellie, could you please give specifics of what she ripped off of Romney?

Whoever wrote that speech for Sarah has well read Mitt Romney's speeches. But one problem is that Sarah has come up with some facts that are not factual. I love Palin and would like her to enter the race just for one thing: "The Crony Capitalist". I dont know who that is but I know that he is not talking about Mitt Romney.
Run Sarah, Run Sarah... Let me have it! Romney 2012

Please can I have some details? How was this speech like Romney's?

Her emphasis on crony capitalism is nothing new. Battling special interest and backroom deals was the focus of her campaign for governor, and her governing agenda.

If you watch The Undefeated, you'll understand.

Right Wingnut said...

Jersey,

Have you seen The Undefeated yet?

Right Wingnut said...

Today in Iowa, home of that all-important Caucus (hint-hint?), Governor Palin spoke as clearly as she ever has on a subject near and dear to my heart and one I’ve been waiting to hear from a serious GOP contender. Palin calls it, quite appropriately, “crony capitalism,” where the moneyed and powerful receive preferential treatment from our political class in exchange for the financial support that puts and keeps the political class in charge of the rest of us.

(...)

This is the vicious circle currently tanking our economy and Palin’s own words sum it up best:

“Corporate welfare is just socialism for the very wealthy.”

Indeed.

And while Governor Palin rightfully trained most of her rhetorical fire on President Obama (the most corporatist president of my lifetime), she also took on Republican members of that “permanent political class” who selfishly dole out our hard-earned money to those who keep them in power.

This is nothing more than a racket and it’s a disgusting one at that that explains why deficits and wasteful spending occurs regardless of which party is in charge — it is, as the Governor made clear, the disease that’s killing our free market economy. But she has a cure that will both cut these insidious ties and create jobs: end loopholes, end corporate welfare, end bailouts (amen) AND end the corporate income tax. In other words: Corporate America — we’ll get out of your way but you are now on your own.

When you see Obama cozying up to General Electric and in turn see GE embracing Obama and his stupid “green solutions,” what you’re witnessing is a scheme designed to snuff competition. GE isn’t stupid, they know “green energy” is nonsense, but they also know they’re “too big to fail” and that they can afford to pay for burdensome taxes (if they pay taxes at all) and environmental regulations. But do you want to know who can’t? Up and coming companies, upstarts who might someday put GE out of business. If you know the government’s going to bail you out and snuff your competition, where’s the downside in “going green”?

What I’m saying is that Big Business can be every bit as corrupt and harmful to our economy as Big Government and Sarah Palin not only understands this, but while she was Alaska’s governor, she fought and beat Big Oil and the political cronies who gave them the upper hand over what was best for her State and its people. This isn’t a folk tale and it’s not political legend. It’s a fact and it’s what sets her apart from way too many on our side.

Sarah Palin gave a masterful speech today in Iowa, going after everyone from the President and the Democrats to the Republican establishment. It was a perfect speech for me, especially given that I just watched her new film last night, Palin: Undefeated, and I highly recommend it. She is the real deal and is setting herself up to be the one who will fight for the people and oppose the cronyism that regularly inhabits Washington DC, as she has done it in her on state of Alaska.

I do think she is running and have never been more sure of it than I am now.

JR,

It's fantastic. You are as knowledgeable as anyone on all things Palin, but if you watch the movie, it will put today's focus on crony capitalism in perspective. I'm convinced that she would have given that speech whether Perry was in the race or not. This is what she will run on.

Massachusetts Conservative said...

Actually, I only watched about 15 minutes of the speech, and then I was busy. I watched it live. I didn't see the parts where she was making veiled shots at Perry. I will watch again.

Massachusetts Conservative said...

Palin supporters...

What's your sense? Who do most Palin supporters support besides Palin?

Will they go for Mitt, Rick, or Michele?

I find it rather difficult to see how a Palin supporter would support a corrupt, sleazy bastard like Rick Perry. But some may still be upset about Romneycare and the idea that Mitt is somehow "Establishment." Others may go for Bachmann as the purist candidate, but are upset that she has no executive experience.

So, Palin supporters, who does Palin endorse? Do her followers listen to her? Where do her supporters go?

I could not watch the speech; thanks for posting RW.

Hey Guys,
Relax a little and hyperventilate. She 'aint gonna run, but she loves the attention. The speech was.......interesting. No specifics , even remote specifics about rebuilding this country. A good comparison of jobs plans is two days away, guys. As to polling being only for strippers and surfers.......well, that includes all of us, doesn't it?
Finally, the crowd. It was raining so it was O.K . Estimates of 5000 ? Be serious. Count them yourself on the videos. Not too hard because there weren't too many. Perhaps 1500 at the most...but it was raining.
Listen, I'd like Sarah to run but 71 % of America doesn't and I know she can read.

I thought this was supposed to be some sort of major announcement yesterday? Did I miss it?

Anonymous said...

One point of her policy of eliminating corporate taxes which amazed me was her method of paying for the elimination is to close the loop holes. The question to her which no one in the press mentioned is if taxes are eliminated what loop holes are remaining to be closed? If there are no taxes there are no tax loop holes.

Right Wingnut said...

Craig,

Wake me up when Romneycare draws 1500-5000 in Iowa. Heck...I doubt he'd get 100...especially in the rain, on a holiday weekend, in a rural town during the Hawkeyes' and Cyclones' first games.

Bachmann drew 80 to a Tea Party Express rally in Iowa the other day. That included vendors and media.

Has any announced candidate drawn a crowd like that ANYWHERE this election season? I don't think so.

That Fox push Poll (conducted by Rick Perry's pollster) won't keep her out of the race.

Right Wingnut said...

anon at :33,

She was referring to corporate welfare and bailouts. Did you know that corporate income tax only accounted for 7% of all federal revenue in 2010? It's not as much as you think. The truth is, Fortune 500 companies spend more time ond resources getting around the tax system than they do creating jobs. Meanwhile politicians on both sides of the aisle are in their pockets which keeps the corporate welfare gravy train going.

Right Wingnut said...

Correction...

Federal recipts for corporate income tax in 2010 was 9%...or $191 billion.

How much did we spend on corporate welfare and bailouts?

This was posted on Hot Air. I will extend the offer to anyone here (not trolls)

"For all of you who are so quick to use the quitter meme or the idiot meme when entering any Palin-related thread, I’d like to challenge you to put your money where your mouth is. Spend $4-$5 and order The Undefeated on PPV or VOD. That’s a pretty small amount of money to spend to maybe learn something that you didn’t know, and it may even keep you from showing what an asshat you are in the future.

Watch the doc and come back and tell us what you think. If you think there are inaccuracies in it, tell us what they are and give us the citations to support your contentions. If you don’t think it shows explicitly why she chose to resign, come back and tell us why. If you watch it and don’t think you see a dynamic leader, come back and tell us why. If after watching the doc, you still don’t think that by resigning she did the only thing she could for both her state and her family, or if you think that she has demonstrated real leadership, we can at least give you credit for making the effort.

Of course, this challenge will require some honesty on your part and quite frankly, based on some of your past posts, I’m not sure that some of you are capable of being honest when it comes to anything Palin-related. Support whoever you choose to and for whatever reason you chose to, but you should (wo)man up and at least put yourself in a position to learn just how wrong-headed you’ve been about Sarah Palin. If you disagree with her on the issues, fine. If you bad-mouth her because you think she unelectable, fine, but commit yourself to supporting her if she is our nominee and to help educated the uneducated, just as 99% of Palin supporters will do for our nominee if it’s not Palin.

For any of you Palin naysayers, if you pay to see The Undefeated and feel that your money was wasted, let me know, and I’ll donate that amount to a hospice in your username. What have you got to lose? Who knows, you might actually learn something about the woman you seem to take such joy in disparaging."

RW, CraigS doesn't want to believe the inevitable. I've been reading his posts for years now, he's very astute and very specific with his motives. He can spin as well as any politician out there. He can take any story, good or bad and sound logical when he argues for or against it. He could probably win in an debate against himself...

BUT

He has a very specific narrative that he wants us all to believe...you see...he's been there and he's done that...he knows...he saw Goldwater crumble...he walked with Nixon...he was a foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution...

He'll continue to say she's not running until the day she announces and then he'll spin that narrative into some notion that he was wrong about Palin all along because he always thought she was a sharp lady but by running it proves that she really isn't...

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH...

MassCon, I think there would probably be an even split until Bachmann fails and than a greater majority might go to Perry...of course the more us Palin supporters hear of Perry...the more we dislike the entire notion of his candidacy.

In a match up between Perry and Romney...I give it to Romney...it will be a lot harder than the path to the nomination might have been if Perry didn't enter but I still give it to Romney.

As to the second part of your question...who would I support...I honestly am not a huge fan of any of the current field. Once again I would be interested in a Giuliani candidacy but barring that my support would be behind Romney but it would be a soft support that would probably find me scarce on forums such as these.

Last year, GE reported 10.3 billion in pre tax earnings, yet received a tax refund of 1.1 billion. Perhaps that is what she was referring to when she spoke of loopholes.

Institute for Policy Studies, a liberal think tank, named in a new report 25 major American corporations whose CEOs were paid more last year than their firm's total U.S. income tax bill. Of those business elites, 10 have substantive ties to Obama -- including some who have official economic policy advisory positions in his administration -- according to a HuffPost analysis of the report.

All told, these 10 CEOs with Obama connections brought in over $158 million for themselves last year. Their companies' federal tax bill, however, was a combined net benefit of $5.4 billion -- meaning the federal government actually owed these companies billions of dollars. Eight of the 10 firms not only did not pay taxes; they received large refunds. The 10 companies scored combined U.S. profits of $26.8 billion.

Right, so in essence by giving them 0 corporate tax and 0 loopholes...the Federal Government saved 1.1 billion dollars.

What's interesting about this concept (anti-crony capitalism) is that if Palin runs...she is the only candidate on either side that can use this as a position...and this could be very important to the average American voter.
